Hello,
My computer won't start; it freezes on the Packard Bell page, which offers me:
ESC: switch screen, F2: BIOS setup, and F8: Boot Device.
Of course, the keyboard is unresponsive, so I can't access the BIOS... I've tried F11 at startup, etc... same thing.
I've opened the PC, disconnected the components one by one, the HDD, the motherboard, the RAM (which I changed ports), replaced the power supply, reset the BIOS by removing the battery for 10 minutes, still nothing...
I don't know what else to do... does anyone have an idea?
Thanks
I'm on XP SP3

I changed the BIOS battery, then did a Clear CMOS, and it worked!
Bye!
- 1. Turn off the PC,
- 2. Unplug the power cord,
- 3. Remove the side panel of the PC to access the components,
- 4. Touch the case of the PC to ground the electrical potential of your body with that of the computer,
- 5. On the motherboard, find the flat battery and, right next to it, the jumper that allows you to reset the BIOS.
- 6. Move the jumper and then put it back.
Bye!
I read your discussion with AnthonyOpH. When you remove the battery, you need to start the PC for a few moments to clear the memory, put the battery back and restart the PC. You will no longer have the time or date, so at that point you need to access the BIOS, set the date and time as well as the boot order of the drives: HDD, CD drives.
To access the BIOS, turn on the computer and when you hear the beep, press F2 (or Del or Delete). The screen that appears presents several sections; go to the first one "Standard CMOS Features," set the time and date; press F3 for disk detection, exit with 'Escape'; then go to "Advanced BIOS Features" to define from which device the PC will boot, choose CD or DVD for the first boot and IDE 0 for the second boot; if there is a third boot, select 'Floppy'. Exit with 'Escape' and restart by pressing F10 then Enter. If everything is okay, the PC will launch. Best regards.
It's a good idea to try the hard drive on another tower, without forgetting to have it recognized by the BIOS. Happy New Year..
