Hello,
So, I have several sound problems with CamStudio.
- First of all, sometimes the sound doesn’t work. I went to the volume settings, properties, input, and I see CD Audio, Microphone, and Wave Out Mix, but not Stereo Mix. How can I enable it?
- Next, there may be sound, but it’s background noise and the computer sound is not being recorded. When I try to record using the speakers, it gives me the message WaveoutGetSelectControl()failed and I get the background noise. I did an Auto Search in the speaker options but got the same message. So, I did a Manual Search and followed the instructions; it should be line 1 that records. However, it still doesn’t work and neither do the other lines.
- Finally, sometimes the computer sound records. However, it is horribly out of sync with the video (3 seconds). I downloaded VirtualDub and followed the instructions to resolve the issue (Change so audio and video match) but it doesn’t give me the expected fps count (closer to 29 than 30) and the video is still out of sync. I tried recording the video without sound and then the sound with Audacity, and after editing, it’s still out of sync...
I’m on XP, I have a Compaq and a Conexant HD sound card.
I’ve been searching for solutions online without finding anything, and the only accessible manipulations don’t work!

Stop! Problems solved.
For those who have the same problems as I do:
- For Stereo Mix, the name differs depending on the sound cards (for me, it was Wave Out Mix). Do some testing.
- For CamStudio speakers, do a manual search in Audio Options and follow the instructions. Then, do not save, but click on Record Audio for Microphone, make a test recording, then click again on Record Audio for Speakers and save. The sound should come through.

Up, because now, it’s the recording itself that’s bugging... It gave me several error messages when I opened it, then I recorded once, and it told me it had separated the image and sound (the sound, by the way, isn’t working) and now, when I want to record something, it says Error Creating AVI File and does nothing.
I think I’m going to go crazy... Help me please!!! -

Sorry about the delay.
Well, everything is working again and I was able to record my video, but I'm still having the problem with the delayed audio. I followed the instructions with VirtualDub but it doesn’t show me the same number of frames and that doesn't help me.
Any solution, maybe?
