Hello,

I
have recently been experiencing crashes on my computer while gaming.
I've owned it since January of this year, and until this summer, I had no issues at all.
One day while playing Mass Effect 2, after about 2 hours of gameplay, I encountered a crash (black screen and the fans running at full speed) with no other solution than to reboot. I thought to myself, "just bad luck," so I restarted, relaunched the game... and in barely 20 minutes, the same thing happened again. At that time, it was summer, so I attributed it to the outside heat.
Then it went away.
But now, for the past 2 days I've been playing the beta of Battlefield 3, it’s happening again, a maximum of half an hour of gameplay (whereas it’s not as hot as this summer anymore).
I did a clean-up and dusting of my computer, but there’s been no change.

E
verest and speedFan give me identical and correct temperatures:

When not gaming, but after being on for several hours:
GPU : 43°c
CPU : 36°c
CM : 36°c

CPU Fan: 775 RPM

In-game, just before crashing:

GPU : 70°c (SpeedFan shows a flame next to it)
CPU : 45°c
CM : 38°c

CPU Fan: 1100 RPM

My config:

Processor: Quadcore AMD Phenom II X4, 3200 MHz
RAM: 4 GB
Graphics Card: NVidia Geforce GTX 460, 1 GB
Power Supply: Antec TruePower 650 Watts 80+ Bronze

I
've explored several options and the ones that seem most likely at the moment are:
- manufacturing defects in the power supply or graphics card
- graphics card not powerful enough for this game (but in that case, I'm not sure the computer would behave like this, would it?)?

Awaiting your responses.

Configuration: Windows 7 / Firefox 7.0

    Your GPU is overheating.

Get a cooling pad. It is often effective.

I want to believe you, but there are just two small things that bother me about this:
-70°C isn't huge for a GPU, and that's actually the highest I've seen; I've also seen it crash around 65°C...
-Another game I was playing for over 2 months without any issues is now crashing, and the only change has been the installation of BF3 (and the accompanying Nvidia driver).

There may have been a heatwave this week, but for an increase of 3-4°C, if my computer crashes when it's 23°C outside, there’s a problem, so I don't think that's it.
