Outlook: error 554 - sending impossible Solved

Question

Hello, I installed a workstation under Windows 2000 with Office Pro 2000. My only problem is that I receive emails but cannot send them.
I have correctly entered the account settings (I have checked 10 times). I have done this installation dozens of times without any issues.

I get this message that appears:

An unknown error has occurred. Account: 'pop.free.fr', Server: 'smtp.free.fr', Protocol: SMTP, Server response: '554 <m14.net81-65-158.noos.fr[81.65.158.14]>: Client host rejected: Access denied', Port: 25, Secure (SSL): No, Server error: 554, Error number: 0x800CCC6F

You need to set the SMTP of YOUR ISP even if you’re not with Free.
For example, with Orange (formerly Wanadoo), I have:

pop:
pop.free.fr

smtp:
smtp.wanadoo.fr

-first: Tools/Accounts/select your account and go to "properties". In "general", first check the correct entry of your messaging password (type it again if necessary) then go to "servers", make sure you have entered: "pop.free.fr" for incoming and "smtp.free.fr" for outgoing (and all in lowercase please). Next, go to the "Connection" tab and it will tell you "if the connection to this account..." and you will find a box "always connect to this account using" if this box is greyed out, first check the box to enable the frame in which you will then drop down the menu and select your ISP .FREE. validate these operations, close everything.
Now disable the antivirus and Firewalls (if all these settings are OK, but the error persists it’s because you have Norton antivirus)
delete all the messages you have in the outbox, then send yourself a message to yourself.

It is impossible to send emails from Outlook Express on a Wi-Fi connection only.
Here is the error message:

I have the same problem with Outlook and a Free address, but also with Coutllo and an Alice address; everything is well configured, but with Free, I get the same error message as you, and with Alice, a Symantec message says that my message may not have been sent because the connection with my mail server was interrupted.

I was told that this could be due to Java??

Because I also can no longer update via Microsoft Update with error 0x80072ee2

Is the Java track the right one? I'm starting to doubt because I have reinstalled Java JRE.

Hello,
I finally found the solution!
It seems that Wi-Fi connections, for example in a hotel, an airport, or a train station, are different from a home connection. This means that in the first case, there’s nothing to change, and in the second, you need to set the SMTP to the provider of the person you’re with, and it works. Don’t forget to revert to the original configuration afterwards.
In Outlook, account, mail: select the account, then properties, server tab, outgoing mail: that’s what needs to be changed. It is also possible that you need to modify the outgoing mail port number in the advanced tab (I personally didn't need to do that).
And that's it!

Same problem and no solution, except to try again later.
(After 15 to 20 attempts to send, the email finally gets sent!) (Without any changes to the settings!!!)

The connection is Orange (as is often the case in Accor hotels)...

I'm encountering the error despite using smtp.orange.fr!!

After pulling out the last of my hair, I tried smtp.free.fr... and it works!!!!!!!!

I had the same problem with Outlook Express: ...554, Error number: 0x800CCC6F ...
I was receiving emails but couldn't send any with the account! Everything was set up correctly!!!

I found the SOLUTION.
The issue comes from the message itself. You need to remove some punctuation, or delete a copy-paste, or delete the message and rewrite it.

Everything then falls into place: NO NEED TO REPLACE @ with %, to switch software to Incredimail or anything else...

I hope to help some users who are struggling...

My ISP is Darty (by the way, I asked for the SMTP, it's smtpauth.dbmail.com).
