search function issue in Outlook Solved

Question

Hello,

The search function in Outlook 2007 no longer returns any results, no matter the keyword.
It was working before and stopped a few weeks ago.
Note that the email search in "Explorer" also returns nothing, whereas document search works fine.

What should I do?

So my problem was: no results in my search in Outlook 2007.

So I disabled indexing > in Search options > uncheck the indexes. I restarted Outlook and miraculously, I finally have results.

Disabling the Instant Search feature allows for simple searches in the folders. I think the Instant Search function only works if you use Windows Desktop Search.

I don't have Vista but XP, but I think the problem comes from desktop search. I had the same issue. I uninstalled the desktop search module and it works again. Happy holidays.

I encountered the same problem.

The only solution I found was to export all my contacts to a pst, delete all the contacts (1800) in Outlook, restart, and then import the contacts from the backup...

Everything came back to normal.

The various web pages I browsed regarding the instant search feature of Outlook 2007 confirm that it does not work well.

THE SOLUTION:
Use the "Advanced Search" function in Outlook 2007, which is also the search function from earlier versions of Outlook.

To do this, go to
the "Tools" menu,
select "Instant Search",
then in the submenu choose
"Advanced Search"

There’s even a shortcut: Ctrl + Shift + F
which allows you to start the search directly from a folder or subfolder in Outlook!!!

All this to stop using the instant search function with random results.

Hello

I just had this problem with Outlook on Windows 07, and by cross-referencing the various solutions proposed here, I was able to fix it.

<start>
In the search box, I typed:
<indexer
<indexing options> appeared: click
Then click
<advanced>
And start
<rebuild>

Identical problem in Outlook 2010 Solution I found: rebuild the search index  File tab > Options > Search > Indexing Options... > Advanced > Rebuild > OK A quick restart of Windows just to be safe.

I am on Windows 7
When I click on rebuild and say "ok" to the window "this operation will take a long time", nothing happens, no progress bar or anything

Is this normal? Does it still work? I don't think so because my Outlook searches are still not working.

The indexing options window indicates that the indexing service is not running even though I have enabled it in the control panel...
Can someone help me?

For Windows 8, the same issue;
just go to tools/options/preferences/search
click on the search options button
then in indexing uncheck personal folders.

Quit Outlook, restart: the miracle is accomplished.

Hello, I've done a lot of forums on the subject because I lost my indexing one day for no reason. For work, I have 3 email accounts simultaneously on Outlook 2010 with over 300,000 stored emails. I tried to rebuild the index but with no results, several times... So I simply left Outlook running for a whole night, doing NOTHING, scheduling NOTHING, and this morning miracle: "Items to index = 0". Everything is back to normal! I recommend this option, making sure of course that indexing is enabled beforehand. To do this, it's easy: in Outlook 2010, click on the small magnifying glass for quick search, leaving the field empty, Outlook will automatically switch to the "Search Tools" tab. Then in "Search Tools", the hammer/wrench icon, click on indexing status. Outlook will then show you the number of unindexed emails. Write it down on a piece of paper and repeat the operation 5 minutes later. If the number has decreased, indexing is enabled, but it's an operation that takes time! Hence the fact of leaving Outlook running for a whole night; it should be radical for indexing all your emails. If the number of unindexed emails doesn't change 5 minutes later, check through Windows > Search "Index" > Indexing Options > Click on Microsoft Outlook in the list then on "Modify" > Ensure that Outlook is checked.
