Blue screen "iastor.sys" windows 7

Hello, like many of you, at startup of Windows a beautiful blue screen appears with "driver IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL" and "iaStor.sys" written on it
I also noticed that for the past 2 days an error window has popped up at Windows startup "an error occurred with svchost.exe" or something like that...

Here's how this happened:
- after downloading an .iso file, when I was "mounting" it on Virtual Clone Drive, the computer suddenly restarted, and thus, blue screen.
- impossible to restart in safe mode, and therefore unable to start from a system backup;
- impossible to format or "repair" Windows with the Windows 7 installation CD;
- and therefore, impossible to access my desktop and proceed with an update, cleaning, etc...
- although my antivirus (ESET NOD32) had warned me of the potential danger of the file in question, I disabled it and opened my file, and today, I regret it...

I can still access the BIOS and the HP diagnostic tool

You will have understood, my computer is an HP brand PC (Pavilion Elite m9273) that I have owned for just under a year, with a Vista OS originally; I later installed Windows 7 (Ultimate) 64-bit. I replaced the original power supply with an Antec EarthWatts 430, added a DVD burner, HD DVD, Blu-ray, and a case fan connected to the power supply with a potentiometer, and I cleaned the heatsink (which really needed it) by removing it from the processor (the average temperature was 65°C, and decreased to 45°C afterwards), I have not yet touched the graphics card (GeForce 8600GT), which I hope to replace with a GeForce (still) 460 GTX.
So, I hope I was as precise as possible, I eagerly await all your advice.

Configuration: Windows XP / Internet Explorer 7.0

I finally managed to solve my problem on my own!

It turns out that "iaStor.sys" is a driver for the hard drive (Intel Matrix Storage, or something like that).

I cannot access the desktop, not even in safe mode; I only have 2 options left: to look for a restore point using a Windows utility that starts by tapping F8 (only after the BIOS loads), and if necessary, with the Windows installation CD.

If the PC keeps restarting indefinitely without launching the installation CD, go into the BIOS and change the boot priority of the system (instead of booting the OS installed on the faulty hard drive, choose to boot from any media that might be in the CD/DVD drive, etc. (preferably the installation CD of your OS), in order to format the hard drive.

I have the advantage (like many of you, I imagine) of having a second hard drive on which all of my files are stored (apart from the OS), so you understand that this setback hasn’t been very detrimental for me.
So to protect your data, back it up on a second hard drive or on another partition of your hard drive.

Finally, to avoid having to format my PC every time I might encounter this type of issue, I am going to partition my hard drive where the OS is installed; on a 500GB disk, I will reserve 160GB for the OS, and the rest for backing up a system image.

I would like to thank myself, without whom I wouldn’t have been able to do anything, and also all the people who took the time to read my "distress call."

Hello,

I'm new to this forum and I'm here to seek help.
I have a problem with my laptop that shows a blue screen when I start it with an error message.
It's a TOSHIBA P300-27Z running Windows 7.

Here’s what it says:

Technical information:

***STOP: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0x8B231000, 0x00000000
*** iastor.sys - Address 8B26F0B8 base at 8B231000, DateStamp 48054343

I can start the computer in safe mode, so I scanned it with several antivirus programs, deleted the detected viruses, but I still get the same message.
I don’t know what to do anymore.
I will try restoring it, but I would like to see if there’s a solution here first.

So if anyone can give me a solution, your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Hello,

For those who are still encountering the problem.

It turns out that it's due to a Windows update 'AHCI 3.0'.

To resolve this issue without having to reformat the machine, follow the steps below:

Run "mmc devmgmt.msc" which will open the Device Manager.
Look for "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers" then right-click and uninstall the AHCI 3.0 driver. Restart the machine and let Windows reinstall the generic drivers.

You should no longer have the issue.

Hello
I have the same problem but I don’t know how to access the command prompt. By pressing F8 during restart, I get several options that all lead me to the blue screen...
Thank you for your help!

I just managed to restart it in safe mode with networking, but after about 30 seconds BAM!!! blue screen and you know the rest. Although I couldn't do anything (because I thought I had all the time in the world), I consider this a "small" progress in solving my problem.
I am still waiting for your suggestions, thank you in advance.
