PS3 stuck on startup

So I just want to say that if you have a 500GB PS3 and the screen freezes on startup, use the second option in the XMB mode of your PS3 (just below restart) and everything should return to normal. Please give a thumbs up so that others can see this, thank you :)

Hi, when I turn on my PS3, the menu doesn't show up anymore; there's only the wave in the background. I was told it's the optical drive, so I'm going to try opening my PS3 and cleaning the inside to see. I'll let you know. :)

It's the hard drive that is dead... There is a solution, recovery mode is to format it if things don't improve... The drive is dead so it will need to be replaced (2.5 inches, 5200 RPM and especially do not take a 7200 RPM as it could cause you to experience a YLOD because it heats up much more).

My problem is quite complex, my PS3 crashed after the last update from Sony via PlayStation Network, and upon restarting, it shows a black screen with no way to do anything!
I then decided to launch recovery mode and nothing happened, it didn't start!
I followed the instructions found on many sites for this procedure
: Turn off your PS3
Press and hold the power button, the PS3 will start and stop
Release the power button, then press and hold (again) the power button, you will hear one 'beep' followed by two consecutive 'beeps'.
Release the power button and follow the on-screen instructions. You are now in your PS3's recovery menu
Yet despite all this, recovery mode still wouldn't come up!
I then formatted my PS3's hard drive with my PC in Fat 32, I also formatted a USB stick in fat 32 and downloaded the official update for the PS3 and created the folder at the root of the USB stick using this procedure:
Before starting, use your PC to create a folder named "PS3" on the storage medium or USB stick. Inside this folder, create a folder named "UPDATE" (the name of this folder is case-sensitive and must be in uppercase letters). Once the UPDATE folder is created, download the PS3 system software update into it.
I finally managed to access recovery mode, I tried all 6 steps and none worked,
When the PS3 in recovery mode asks me to perform the update from storage media, I properly inserted my USB stick formatted in fat 32 with the folder containing the update, and the PS3 tells me that it is unable to access the storage media.
I'VE TRIED EVERYTHING, I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO ANYMORE!!!
PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR ADVICE OR A SOLUTION TO THIS PERSISTING PROBLEM. THANK YOU

Hi everyone, I also had the same problem except that I had a black screen...
After that, I restarted the PS3 in "safe mode". There were 5 solutions available to me but the console got stuck on any choice.... That's when I realized that every time it tries to access information on the hard drive to start up, it crashes! So my solution was to replace the hard drive and reinstall the latest firmware 4.60. And now, everything works normally!
So for anyone who has a display issue at startup and is stuck, look no further, it's your hard drive that's having a problem! ;) ^^

Me too, it did the same for me, but what happened is that I restored the system and it switched to English, and it keeps asking me to restore the system again, it's really frustrating because I have a lot of projects in progress!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To all PS3 users having issues with not launching a PSN account, I recommend this video (type the name directly on YouTube): PS3 recovery mode black screen bug, dust cleaning. Just make sure at the end, do not select restore file system but restore default settings. There you go ;)
