TZ7 displays "system error (mp)" Solved

Question

Hello, so I received a DMC-TZ7 for Christmas and today when I turned on my device the screen was blurry and it wouldn't focus anymore, so I turned it off and it got even worse, a message shows up saying "please turn it off and then on again," which I did, but now it says "system error (mp)"

It hasn't even fallen, it hasn't received any shocks and I'm starting to think that fate is against me...

When I turn off the device, the lens doesn't retract; it does that when I turn it back on before reopening. I've tried turning it on and off a good ten times, taking out the battery, the memory card, but nothing works

So please tell me you have a solution >_<

I experienced the same thing, but I have a Lumix DMC-FZ28 (Bridge). I first formatted the memory card and the internal memory, and I restored the default settings. But when I turned on my camera, the image remained blurry. In fact, you need to switch to manual focus mode, and that removes the autofocus blockage. However, I don't know if digital cameras have this option... In any case, good luck to you!

If I'm not mistaken, (mp) stands for microprogram, it's the system of the devices.

This problem is sometimes resolved by finding a firmware update online.

Hello, I have exactly the same problem as you; the screen displays "system error (MP)" and like you, it hasn't suffered any shock. It is still under warranty so I will hurry to return it. Good luck!

Hello! I have the same problem! Apparently, there are several steps to take; you need to reset the memory of the card with the "format" option in the configuration menu, but that didn't work for my Lumix..
I think you should get in touch with customer service if you are still under warranty.

Hi there, I had the same problem as you, system error (MP) with my Panasonic Lumix. After several attempts, I managed to unlock it by starting it while pressing the "menu" and "on/off" buttons at the same time.

I also tried, but it's impossible because the error message appears after 1 to 2 seconds. Even when going fast, I don't have time to enter the menus... I removed the SD card, and it still does it. Only the internal memory remains. What a hassle!!! :-(

Well, no solution to fix this problem for me. I contacted Panasonic customer service. I'm sending the device to the service center (near Lyon).  I hope the issue will be resolved once and for all. Not cool for a camera given to my daughter for Christmas 2010.

Same for me. It happened one morning, we shook it because we thought it was just dust. Suddenly it worked again for an hour... I was able to take some photos and then, again, the same problem. It was five days ago. Yesterday I called Panasonic who gave me the address of the customer service. I mentioned that according to all our testimonies, this seemed to happen quite often. They didn't want to comment...
I then wanted to download the photos from last week because that part still works well. Miracle! At the end of the download session, the device works normally again! For how long? What should I do? Should I still bring it to the customer service (but for how many euros???)

As far as I'm concerned, I haven't questioned it since it's under warranty. So there's "only" the tracked Colissimo to pay to send it back. 9 € nonetheless.  Apparently, it's a known issue. As soon as I provided the error message, the customer service guy told me: "You need to send it, we can't do anything online." It's normal that they don't want to comment. There's a problem, that's for sure. Just take a look at the forums or simply type System Error (MP) to realize it.

So just for your information. I sent the camera on Monday, March 7th, via Colissimo to PANASONIC's customer service (www.nikkenfrance.com/). It came back on Friday by the same means. They have: - Replaced the zoom. - Done a complete cleaning. - Updated the firmware.  It's working like it did on day one. Let's hope it lasts. ;-)

On a a FX 37 with the same message "zoom system error," I just held the lens out when it popped out so it wouldn't retract and cause the system error.
I triggered it 2 or 3 times while holding the lens.
I turned off the camera, turned it back on, and it works perfectly!

I had this problem several times, sometimes it would work again and then it would start failing to focus with the lens out, impossible to retract... well, all the problems you mentioned on this blog... Having to leave for 15 days in Vietnam, I went to Panasonic's customer service in Paris, the device was working that day. So he told me to come back when it wasn't working. It's been 3 months, I went to Vietnam with it and took over 500 photos, I haven't had any issues since March... knock on wood.... was it dust??? something else... but don’t lose hope. I think what worked (which wouldn't align with the dust hypothesis) was completely reformatting it...??? Good luck.

Hello, I have the same problem with FS11, the objective won't fit anymore. I tried formatting the memory card, the machine, everything... but nothing works, so in the end I managed to unblock it by dropping the machine on the table. The method isn't very gentle, but at least it works.

Hello, I had the same problem too... The issue must come from the fact that the device was in contact with moisture for too long, thus causing a malfunction in the automatic focus upon startup. To my knowledge, there's no remedy for this; you just have to turn it off and on again by pressing everywhere and hope for the best.

I have the same problem with the tz6 (system error mp); they offered to replace the lens for 180€ which I refused. Upon receiving my device, I dropped it about ten centimeters above the desk and............... oh magic, it works perfectly fine....

Same problem with a Lumix DMC TZ10. Same punishment. I turn it on and off while also pressing the menu button. I repeat the operation several times. I "force" the zoom to retract by pressing on it. I tap the device against my thigh (softer than a desk...). This a certain number of times. It goes back in place but the photos are blurry (focus issue). So I continue the same manipulation. And everything goes back to normal. It is indeed a problem with the zoom/AF mechanism getting stuck.

Hello,  the same problem has been observed on a Lumix DMC-TZ10 which occurred without any drop in sand or particular shock! That doesn’t prevent some impurity from having sneaked in...  * System error (MP) (after a suspicious noise from the zoom motor) * The lens no longer retracts when turning to OFF (same suspicious noise) * Turning to ON extends the lens but it immediately retracts again.  Attempts at light shocks, forced closure, or blockage of the lens have yielded no improvement.  The restoration didn’t yield anything either.  We will check the warranty, but I don’t have much hope anymore...  Now, I think we will avoid the brand...

I had the same problem with my DMC-TZ7, I kept getting the MP system error.
I tried all the ON/OFF MENU manipulations, sliding a piece of paper through the gaps, etc., including some light taps on the zoom, all without success.

I finally disassembled everything as described by a photography specialist here:

Indeed, I could have taken the opportunity to clean the CCD sensor, infrared filter, etc., but it didn't seem necessary to me.

I continued beyond the video; to remove the zoom, you need to tilt it and find the right angle to take it out of the case without forcing it (once all the screws are removed, it's a bit tricky).

Once the zoom was opened, I applied a bit of penetrating spray on the focus motor. The motor in question can be seen on the Philtronic blog mentioned above.

Reassembly was trouble-free (except for one screw that I can't find!?).

Upon restarting, I got the MP error again, then no more errors but the focus was blurry, then a system ZOOM error (when zooming in to the max)... but this time I was able to access the reset menu for the TZ7 configuration, shooting mode / menu / config (icon "12-point wrench!") / restore.
And there, oh miracle, the autofocus works perfectly again, several photos and videos without any issues. And since I went ahead and wiped the external lens of the TZ with a glasses cloth, it seems even better!

I hit something not too hard: nothing. But after a few days (maybe a week or two at most), everything returned to normal. Then, I had some similar minor issues for a week; I gently tapped the device, and it was better. Now, no more problems! Thank you for your help anyway!

Good! I'm rather non-violent, so I'll give you another tip: set the device to playback and turn the zoom wheel to the left - press menu to return to full-screen playback - just switch back to shooting mode.

Linux xz1/error system (MP)/ the zoom no longer comes out/
As recommended by other users, I removed the battery for a whole night and then restarted and forced the zoom to come out a bit using the "dial" setting on the top of the device... my device is working again after 3 days of malfunction!!
