Blank CD not recognized by the drive

Hello,

I'm calling on the IT pros!!!

Three weeks ago, I was able to burn audio CDs and DVDs without any problems.

Now, and only for CDs (there is still no problem with DVD burning), it indicates that I need to insert a writable disc into the drive even though I have already put one in. I tried two brands to see if it was a disc defect, but neither is recognized whereas I had no issues with these types of discs before (CD-R80 TDK and Verbatim).

Is there something I should uninstall on my computer???

Can you help me?

Thank you in advance

Fanny

Hello Fanny9,

Try uninstalling your drive, restart, and then reinstall it.
If not, call your PC's customer service: your drive may be defective...
Which burning software are you using?
Try Nero.

See you later

Hello Baka,

Thank you for your quick response...

I would like to uninstall the drive but when I bought my laptop last year, there were no drivers on a separate CD-ROM. I was told that it was normal. Do you have any idea? Especially since I have no idea what the brand of the burner is as I only found some symbols for the hardware (HL-DT-ST DVD+RW GCA 4040N).

Otherwise, I tried with Windows Movie Player and Nero, and for blank DVDs, it works fine but the recognition of blank CDs is not happening.

Anyway, thank you for your help.

See you later,

Fanny9

Good evening Fanny,

Try updating the burner on the site:

www.drvupdate.com

You can find quite a few drivers for combo DVD burners/readers there

Happy searching

Hello
I have an HP laptop with the same problem.
I bought Sony DVDs that are not recognized (DVD-R x8), but I have no problem with a Verbatim DVD marked DVD+R x4.
I haven't attempted reinstallation because if it works with certain DVDs, the functioning is not the issue...
See you!

Hi, I think I found the solution.

If it's a "High Speed CD RW" that you want to burn, check if your CD drive has the "High Speed CD ReWritable" logo.
If it doesn't have it, your CD is simply not compatible, it will not be detected.
So you need to buy another one that doesn't have this logo.

I hope I helped you.
See you later.

Hello,

Finally, after several tries and hair-pulling, NERO recognizes my blank CD, but since I was always used to using Windows Media Player, I still don't understand why it no longer recognizes my CDs.

If anyone has an idea???

See you later

Thank you

Without being 100% sure, CD/DVD combos have two distinct lenses for reading or burning… I would lean towards dirt on one of your lenses regarding your problem...

Hello Sahou

CD/DVD reader/burner: no longer reads, not recognized, ....
http://www.forumschoixpc.com#D5 (paragraph 5 of the page)
CD-ROM reader no longer recognized
https://forum.hardware.fr/hfr/Hardware/lecteur-graveur/probleem-reconnaissance-windows-sujet_672673_1.htm
http://www.faq-nero.com/faq017.php 2005-12-17
another solution
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us
look for the keys "UpperFilters" and "LowerFilters"
in the registry
Start menu/Run
type "regedit" and Enter
"Edit/Search" tab
type "lowerfilters" and Enter
to continue the search, press "F3"
and delete everything you can delete
then do the same search with "upperfilters"
you will find exactly what you can delete
if there is a modem on USB port (Cibox or Neuf Box), unplug it before restarting

see you +
