mp4 player not recognized Solved

Question

Hello,
I have a problem, I received my MP4 player from Hong Kong, I was able to access it twice via the USB port and now nothing!
My PC indicates that: the USB device malfunctioned, Windows does not recognize it.
I tried another USB cable and that doesn't work either.
If you have a solution, please help me...

Hello!  Well, for your m-4 reader from Hong Kong, I suggest updating the device driver, try plugging it in when Windows opens, mine had the same symptoms and it worked.  bye

Thank you for your response, I tried to branch it at the opening of Windows but I always get the same message.
What do you mean by drivers? On the installation CD, there are practically only utilities and a driver for Win98.

I also received a Chinese MP4 from eBay... The computer (Win98) doesn't recognize it, the charger doesn't charge anything, and when I access the games menu, I get "err. disk"...
Should I try to disassemble it...?

Hi everyone, I found the issue with the MP3/MP4 players from Hong Kong bought on eBay; it's actually the USB cable supplied that doesn't work, so use a good quality USB cable and it will work =)

I have a bit of the same problem as everyone!!!
Description:

My mp3/mp4 player that comes from Hong Kong, so without a brand, with a capacity of 1GB, connected for the first time to my computer (OS: Windows 98 SE), and since then, nothing. The manager indicates that the device is unknown and that the drivers for this device are not installed. I updated with Windows Update and it says: "No driver found for this device."

I went to the Windows Update site and it indicates that improvements for "Windows 98 SE" have not been made since July 11, 2006. So, no drivers can be found for this mp3/mp4 player purchased at the end of 2006 on this site.

The cable works since on Windows XP and Slax (a Linux OS contained on a CD), my player is recognized. And the gutting method mentioned above scares me a bit so, I don't know how to solve this problem.

I wandered around the internet looking for improvements for Windows 98 SE, and several pros and amateurs have made downloadable packs containing various software and drivers. But if I can have another solution, I would rather it not be that one.

Can you please help me???

P.S.: Otherwise, my mp3/mp4 player works fine!!!

I had the same issue (Windows XP), and it was finally resolved (and tested): the "mass storage device" not being recognized, you just need to:
1°) insert a USB stick into a USB port
2°) When the stick is recognized, remove it
3°) plug in the MP4 cable in place of the USB stick

And there you go, the device is recognized!

Why? - Mystery, but it works for me!

Changing the USB cable is a pain!!! It charges but there's not enough power for it to be recognized on XP and Vista

Buy a new cable with a larger diameter or a 2.5" external hard drive cable with 2 USB outputs, it works for me

hay ho,
I found another solution. After testing the USB stick trick, opening the case with tweezers, I remembered my electrician father, took an old USB cable, cut off the PC connection part and reconnected the MP4 connection part to the other end. Result: it works damn it!!!
Just in case your cheap MP4 reader connector is not really easy to find on the market, it's a trick.
In short, replacing the USB cable with a good cable worked for me.

just to let you know that I had the same problem as you, and actually, I advise you to change the USB cable. Before, it was impossible for me to transfer music, and since I changed my USB cable, everything works perfectly. I hope this can help someone.
