Hello everyone,
I wish to join an engineering school in electronics next year.
With the enrollment confirmations coming soon, I need to make a choice between these two schools: ESEO in Angers or Polytech'Nantes (ETN specialty, formerly SEII).
I am studying for a DUT in GEII (Electrical Engineering and Industrial Computing) and will be entering the school in the third year. I am eligible for both schools. I understand that ESEO is a private school, while Polytech is public. I am having difficulty making my choice based solely on the information I gathered during the open days and in the brochures.
I am reaching out to all students, alumni, teachers, or professionals for their opinions on each of these schools. Comparisons are welcome.
Thank you in advance.

Polytech'Nantes also has numerous agreements with foreign universities.
Moreover, regardless of the school you choose, I believe you won't have any difficulty finding a job upon graduation since the job placement rate is quite good for both.
It all depends on your selection criteria... money? location? housing? student life?...
As far as the training is concerned, I truly think that both schools are equal. -
I'm torn; Polytech'Nantes is starting to gain some notoriety, while ESEO is a school with a lot of experience and very large partners (Audiencia and UTC, nonetheless!).
After reading the profiles, I think I would choose ESEO (thanks to its double degree—thanks to the partners, which has a lot of value in my opinion). By the way, there are partnerships with foreign universities (USA, China, Canada, Brazil, Australia, etc.).-
Yes, there are indeed partnerships at ESEO, but I think the school benefits greatly from them, as a year in a dual degree program in Hong Kong or Australia will cost between €20,000 and €30,000. Moreover, the student life at ESEO is lacking in every aspect, with no support from the school in this regard (and rather a hindrance), resulting in no atmosphere or festive life; however, they do like to boast about LAN parties and projects to make money.
- First of all, hello, because at ESEO we are polite and I think sebibubu would know this if he were here.
Then, although the topic dates back to 2009, one point remains to be clarified. I am in my fourth year, everything is going well, and until now I have never had to complain about the associative life at the school. All the clubs are thriving, very well attended. So there are 2 options: either sebibubu has no connections at ESEO and got kicked out; or he is simply not from ESEO but from Polytech.
Both schools are great, both for student life and courses. The external network is very well developed in both cases. The choice, in my opinion, is more about the options offered and the job opportunities upon graduation. That and the price, which is not negligible, but loans exist, as do the 2 types of work-study (apprenticeship and professional contract).
Good luck and good choices to all high school students and college students on Admission PostBac.

Hello Pauline!
Well, being 3rd on the waiting list can be just that, honestly. But don’t be desperate! I’d say it’s a 50/50 chance...
Since it’s based on competition, some people might decline. Maybe 2 or 3 people, precisely. However, don’t count on those coming from PIP to give up their places, it’s asking a lot right at the end of their course. I remember this year someone arrived a week after the start of the term who had been in prep. After all, I know it's not easy since you have to respond to other schools...
Otherwise, one of my best friends applied last year and was 3rd on the waiting list. He went to Polytech'Orléans and, in the end, he would have been accepted at Nantes.
So there it is, I can’t guarantee you a "yes," but not a "no" either.
Hoping to see you next year! Good luck!
P.S.: What a great choice on your part Polytech' Nantes ;)-
Good evening,
First of all, thank you very much for your response.
So according to you, I should wait for the end of the admission process, which is on September 9th, in case I might be accepted at Polytech'Nantes. I am already accepted at Polytech'Orléans in Energy Mechanics (that's my third choice). The thing that worries me, though, is in case I get a late admission, the search for housing.
Thanks again for everything.
I hope to see you next year as well.

Thank you for these initial responses.
My criteria are mainly the atmosphere at the school, the support from the teachers, and especially the school's recognition by companies.
Otherwise, Angers is further from my home than Nantes, but I don't want to be influenced by location or price.
I read that ESEO hasn't really developed its "International Relations" aspect. But I feel like ESEO is better known by companies.
On the other hand, I got the impression during the open house at Polytech Nantes that this school lacked a bit in terms of equipment... However, I know that Polytech is part of the polytechnic network, which is quite well recognized!
What do you think of these opinions I've formed? I would be very interested in the opinion of a former student from Polytech Nantes (SEII) to discuss the program and resources.
Thank you, see you soon. -
Hello hello! I hope I'm not too late in replying to this post!
First of all, let me introduce myself; I’m a student at Polytech'Nantes in Thermal Energy and I went through the PEiP pathway (PIP come on come on come on!!)
As for the SEII and the school's reputation, I must point out that Polytech'Nantes has been ranked the 11th best post-bac school by L'Étudiant, which is pretty good! It’s even better (and I’m not saying this just because I’m here) that this school is gaining a lot of value right now, and it's happening very quickly. Thanks to what? Thanks to the numerous projects and internships, in my opinion (we are well supported by the teachers too). It is truly enriching professionally.
For your information, when I entered the program, there were about 150-200 people at the oral exams (after screening the applications). Now it has quadrupled, hence an entrance exam, which also means stricter selection, which is supposed to raise the entry level.
Afterward, ESEO also has a reputation (one of my friends went there... for a year ^^') but it’s less polytechnic :p What I mean is that by the time you graduate from Polytech, I believe you have a broader range of knowledge than when graduating from ESEO. Ultimately, it’s a personal choice whether you want that or not!
Anyway, if you have any other questions, feel free to ask; I’ll try to come back from time to time ;)
If you want to talk about student life, I’ll crack my knuckles and write you a novel! And they don’t have that in Angers!!!
Hope to see you soon, maybe!-

Hello, I am interested in your experience in PEiP because I am torn between taking the exam to join polytech in the first year or doing a DUT for two years and then applying for the third year. I would like you to explain to me how the integrated prep works (number of students in classes, atmosphere, student support, types of subjects studied, etc.).
Thank you in advance. -

Hello,
I just finished two years of preparatory classes in PC, and having taken the Archimedes exam, I am 3rd on the waiting list for Polytech'Nantes in the thermal-energy field. My question is as follows: do you think I have a chance of being admitted to this program???
Thank you -
Good evening Pauline
Well yes, in your place, I would wait. But I forgot to tell you one thing since I didn't know you were admitted to mechanical energy.
(In fact, several things come to mind now ^^ I'll try to say them as clearly as possible)
I was talking to you about my friend who didn't go to Nantes, well he is in Orléans in mechanical energy right now. Honestly, the subjects are comparable, but we do many more projects in Nantes. However, in terms of thermal or energy subjects, the third year in Nantes is quite poor. All of this is studied in depth in the 4th and 5th years. Basically, to not confuse you, we do almost the same things in Nantes as in Orléans but with more group work in the third year (If you want me to list the subjects in a post, I have all of them and their coefficients, just ask me and I will do that for the TE3 in Nantes).
Another thing to help you compare: the system for passing to the next year.
In Nantes: you need an average of 12 to be SURE to pass. In fact, above 11.5 is fine. This year, out of a class of 50, one was expelled (sniff, he was a good friend) and one is repeating, the rest pass. To be expelled you need to be below average.
In Orléans: you need to have an average in all modules. Basically, you can have a 12 average and still have a retake to pass (that's the case for my friend who had to retake applied mechanics (at the same time, for those who don’t know anything about engine transmission etc. like me, well it’s boring!!))
Regarding this grading system, Nantes is the last school in the network to do it. And, since we got quite a bit of information this year (most in pairs = the whole class helps each other), well it's not so bad! (sorry, I'm speaking for myself here)
Uh... I could write a lot more but I'm afraid of straying a bit from your expectations.
So feel free to ask questions, I like to praise the merits of Polytech ;)
See you soon -
Oops, I forgot about the housing.
Well, it's true that in Nantes it's not easy. But, I'm saying this as an example, the residence where I am is a 15-minute walk from Polytech in the morning (with traffic, yes yes !!), 5 minutes from the tram on foot, a quarter of an hour from downtown, and there were still apartments available for rent at the beginning of last year, and even throughout the year. There are a lot of agencies, so I think it’s still findable with a bit of patience and determination.
I have no idea if there’s information online about the number of places available or not, but the name of the group managing the residence is "LAMY résidence." And regarding the prices (which might be useful too), I pay €420 per month for a very clean 21m² apartment, with a balcony, furnished, with internet (Ethernet cable provided for everyone), outdoor parking + underground parking, and it’s not noisy at all. I think there are bigger places for less money, but then maybe they don’t have all those advantages.
Good evening again, and good luck with the wait (can't you check the status of the waiting list?)
Ciao-
Whoa, thanks for all the info, it helps me a lot. In any case, it's clear you love your school.
Based on your description, it seems like both programs are on par; however, looking at the course content, I noticed that the program offered at Polytech'Orléans was more focused on automotive and aeronautics. And actually, I would like to study energy and thermics in order to work in buildings, particularly on thermal exchanges with the outside and how to improve them... And I don't think Polytech'Orléans offers this opportunity, which is why I've ranked it accordingly.
Regarding housing, I think I've already come across your residence, but I can't do anything until I have the final results. I thank you for your help, as I'm sure I will have many more questions.
I admit that the system for moving up to the next class doesn't really make sense to me, but I'll take note of it.
As for the ranking and its progress, I don't understand everything, because indeed it changes (for example: for my second choice, I've moved up one place), but I think it's because someone didn't respond in time. Indeed, students could only respond until last Saturday, so the ranking shouldn't change until August 26th, and yet we have to wait until that date. Strange.
In any case, I'll keep you updated on my admission process to Orléans or Nantes (preferably Nantes).
It's nice to get the opinions of someone who already lives there, I feel less lost in the unknown. (I've never been to Nantes).
Last question: on which site is the TE program held? La Chantrerie or Gavy?
-
-
Hello!
About the ranking, yes, it's pretty strange... but I think there must be some people accepted at Polytech Nantes who might withdraw in the meantime... we’ll see.
We are at the Chantrerie campus, in the North-East of Nantes, very close to Carquefou (so technically, there’s also a way to look for an apartment there, which avoids the traffic jams). If it were the Gavy campus, we would have to look in Saint-Nazaire! (they're right next to the sea, lucky them :'( ) Over there, it’s the Civil Engineering option.
Don’t worry about never having been to Nantes; you’re going to love it, there’s no other way! (I had never been either until three years ago).
And did you reply “yes but” for Orléans then?
Well, since I’m at work, I won’t write a novel :p
Have a nice day! -
Hello. I am 13th on the waiting list at Polytech Nantes for civil engineering. I would like to know if it is possible for me to be admitted? Thank you.
-
Hello!!!
To be honest, your chances are almost zero. Civil Engineering in Saint-Nazaire is probably the hardest to get into, along with EBE in Chambéry, and last year I believe there were no withdrawals :/
Sorry for you! But as Pauline says, you should have other options; there are choices at Polytech for CE!
Have a great vacation!-
Hi,
I am studying civil engineering at a university in Rennes. I saw in the discussions that it seems tough to get into Polytech' (GC or TE option)... I wanted to know how they handle the first selection (file), do they look at all the module grades or just the ranking? And if they look at the ranking, do you know from which position one can have a chance?

Hi everyone.
I'm responding to the first topic of the post. I am currently in ETN, moving into my 4th year (2nd year of the engineering cycle). To give you some feedback on the program: 1st semester: Refreshing Prepa/DUT knowledge
The prep students focus on electronics and electricity, while the DUT students concentrate on math and physics (Yay)
The 1st semester is a major leveling up that allows you to start normally (I emphasize normally) on a solid foundation for the core of the program in the 2nd semester. During this first semester, you will work on an interesting project where you will have to build a robot that moves through a maze, it's really fun.
The 2nd semester is tougher but manageable.
To compare ESEO and polytech Nantes ETN, it's essentially the same. I have friends at ESEO, we share notes... it amounts to the same. As for the school's reputation, I'm interning in Rennes at a company and to my surprise when I arrived... 5 engineers from Polytech Nantes were there. They range from R&D to product management. I'm not worried about the quality of the training provided.
We did a module called "Discovering Business Professions" during the year, and we met an alumnus from Polytech; know that the range of positions filled after graduating from ETN is very diverse. Some professionals consider Polytech Nantes to be on par with an INSA. However, be careful to choose your Polytech school wisely. Some Polytech schools are not great :p -
13 on the waiting list, that was my ranking in civil engineering last year... and last year at this date, there was no more waiting list. In the end, I got my second choice. No, indeed civil engineering is dead in my opinion for you... At least not in Nantes. Good luck.

Hello Eltono,
Here’s a little update, I am now second on the waiting list for Nantes, however, I know that the more time passes, the fewer my chances become. I have a quick question about Polytech'Orléans, I wanted to know which campus the mechanical-energy training takes place on? Galilée campus or Vinci campus?? I figured since your friend was there, maybe you would know.
Thanks -
Hello,
I have been admitted to the 3rd year at Polytech Nantes in thermal and energy engineering. I am originally from Avignon and I plan to go to Nantes next week to find accommodation.
However, I would like some advice. I would like to know the strategic places, so to speak, where I can enjoy the student life at Polytech and avoid feeling isolated. Because I noticed that the school is particularly far from the center of Nantes, so will there be social activities if I take an apartment close to the school?
Thank you in advance for your responses.

Hello
I am in my final year of high school at La Herdrie in the European section and I would like to join Polytech Nantes next year to complete the 2 years of integrated preparatory classes and then 3 years in the engineering cycle.
I have an average of about 14, do I have a chance of being accepted in Nantes?
Thank you in advance -
