Hello everyone, I would like someone to help me regarding the use of my network cable tester called DIGITAL LCD DISPLAY NETWORK CABLE TESTER. For more details, please paste the link below into your browser and press enter to see the said tester.
Link: http://www.pittjug.org/catalog/pics/Network_Cable_Tester__Lan_Tester.jpg
When I plug my R-J45 UTP cable into the 2 ports, I see numbers appearing parallel on my display, and when I press the "M" button, I see numbers and indications such as: Miswire, UTP flashing after. But I wonder how to know if my cable is good or has cuts, for example?
Please keep me informed on how to use this device if you recognize what kind of tester it is, as it is new and I'm struggling, you see how much I'm suffering...
Thank you in advance

Hello,
if you have a miswire, it’s certainly because the cable is bad.
The simplest solution: you "test the tester" with a good cable (a straight and a crossover, for example) and take note of the indications.
Then, you test the cable you have made and compare if the result is the same.

Most RJ cable testers are in two parts.
You just need to search a little to find illustrations.
But maybe I need to do it for you in addition to showing you the way?
All technicians know what a test plug is: it is made to measure depending on the test to be performed.
It generally consists of looping transmit on receive in a socket and testing alone at the other end.
For RJ45, the loopback plug could be wired:
1-7
2-8
3-4
5-6
or
1-3
2-6
4-7
5-8
or
1-4
2-5
3-7
6-8
as you choose.

Hello,
When you plug the two RJ45 connectors of your cable into the ports located in your tester, it sends bits from one port to the other, and the result is displayed on the screen.
If you see the numbers appearing in parallel:
12345678
12345678
Your cable is a straight-through cable and it works.
If you see:
12345678
36145278
Your cable is a crossover cable, and it works.
If you see:
12345678 or 12345678
1 345 78 NOTHING
it means the wires 2 and 6 did not transmit the sent bits (problem: miswired or damaged), the cable will not work.

Hello berkani5, I apologize for the irregularity I have shown; I know I failed to thank you, but I believe you will forgive me.
In fact, your help has been very useful to me, your explanation was so clear that I didn't even have to scratch my head to master your approach. I must admit that now I am testing without any problem like a true master in computer networking.
But I still have a little concern regarding our famous topic "network cable tester"; I wonder what the other indications such as "miswire, short" mean?
As we might think in literal English (miswire = no connection or missing wire, short = short), is that it?
Hey! berkani5, I really liked your signature The eagle flies alone; it has given me a lot of courage, and I have been inspired by it a lot lately. I would also like us to share many things in common, or you can at least give me your Yahoo or Hotmail messenger account if you don't mind.
Because that's the only way that can help us build a very good relationship, and then we can get to know each other better and introduce ourselves to one another...
Goodbye and see you soon.
