Hello,

Well, like many, I have an old wired house, with RJ11 cables (based on the colors and the age), back when telephony was king.
So, let's make the most of what we have, right?
RJ11 cables have 8 connection wires and RJ45 cables have 8 connection wires (I’m talking about the cables, not what’s at the end, namely the connectors).

Can we then use our RJ11 wiring to connect RJ45 connectors at the end to then run our wired network through it? (interconnected computers + internet with a box)
Is there really a physical difference between these cables that are copper and seem to be of comparable size? Is it just a difference in color coding? (considering that RJ45 cables are not always shielded...)

    Thank you.
So, I find myself with cables that have 8 copper wires, installed ten years ago for telephone T connections. How can I know what they correspond to?
The only thing I can do is observe, see the color of each of these 8 wires.
But then? How to identify them?

What exactly do you want to do with this cable?
Do you have anything written on it?
      What colors do you have?
