Userenv error 1090

Question

Hello everyone,

Due to numerous crashes of my laptop, I did some research and found, via the Event Viewer, this error:
Error - Userenv - Event ID 1090

"Windows could not record the status of the RSoP (Resultant Set of Policy) session. A connection attempt to WMI failed. No RSoP data will be recorded for this policy application."

I can't figure out at all, despite extensive research, how to fix this issue and, consequently, resolve this crashing problem that is driving me more than anything else.

Hello,I also have the same error message; apparently, it occurs every time Windows starts up, but my computer is not crashing. However, I have a "critical stop" sound that occurs after each startup.

regarding me, since I installed service pack a1 I have no more crashes, except when I'm working on 3D and pushing it too hard

I no longer have this sound at startup, I tried disabling several services. Apparently, it was the "Windows Service Pack Installer update service" that caused a critical stop at Windows startup.

Otherwise, I still have the error:
Error - Userenv - Event ID 1090

"Windows was unable to register the status of the RSoP session (resultant set of policies). A WMI connection attempt failed. No RSoP recording will be performed for this policy application."

in the event viewer.

PS: I am on service pack 2.

Hi,
Same symptoms as you, but on top of that my icons are locked on the Desktop and, even funnier, I no longer have drag and drop.
After several attempts to recover and repair, I decided to format and reinstall. To my surprise, I found that the problem came back at lightning speed.
I barely had time to reinstall Windows XP Pro, do the same with service pack 2, install the antivirus and WinPatrol.
Oh, I almost forgot! I also installed the latest updates via Windows Update, and I'm wondering if the problem might be coming from that. I’m still looking into it and I’ll keep you posted!

Here it is. I still haven't solved the problem. I detected a trojan that I eliminated, but the issue persists. Since I'm too lazy to attempt the formatting operation again for such an unpredictable result, I've rigged something that allows me to move my icons and use drag-and-drop.
In fact, I've created two user sessions, X and Y. Upon startup, it's impossible to directly log into either session. My mouse pointer remains an arrow instead of a "little hand," and my session icons stay greyed out. By pressing ctrl + alt + delete twice, a dialog box appears. I then choose the user session X and log in by clicking "OK" (since I haven't set a password). In this first session, I can access the desktop, but I can't use drag-and-drop or move my icons into folders (except by copying and pasting, which is a bit of a mess). So, I go to "Start" > "Log off X," and I find my session icons accessible again. I then click on session Y, enter my password, and access my second session normally. There, I can use drag-and-drop, move my icons, and operations happen at a normal speed.
One of my sessions thus serves as a "decoy" for the problem.
I know my procedure is a bit "far-fetched," but it works and allows me to work normally. Of course, in the "Event Viewer," under "Application," I still have the Userenv 1090 error.
I continue searching, hoping to find the miracle solution somewhere along the way. If I do, I won't hesitate to share it with you.

My XP is still that of the CD, so no updates??? And I don’t plan to do any right away.
