To disable the printer spooler:
Start menu / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Services → right-click on "Spooler" → "All tasks": Stop → Properties: Disabled or Manual, you restart, you verify that the spooler is indeed stopped, you install your program. After the installation you restore the printer spooler.

I think I found the solution.

Any error starting with "0x" is associated with an incompatibility issue with the InstallShield program, which allows all components to be installed. To fix this error, locate the "InstallShield" folder on the computer (its location varies depending on the operating system but is usually "c:\Program Files\Common Files\") and then delete it.

Rerun the installer. The installation will proceed correctly.

I also think it's an issue with multiple installations because I have this problem with Zoombrowser and now I can't uninstall it. HELP

Ok it's not a very proper method in the sense that it dodges the problem, but copying the game from the disks into a common directory and then launching the install from there solves the problem
(at least for me with XP and Splinter Cell 2)

If you’re on Windows XP, here’s a lead:
Start…Run
Type Regedit
Click OK
Browse to the registry key path HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Explorer\User Shell Folders.

Verify that the values and data match:
Common Desktop %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Desktop
Common Programs %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Start Menu
Common Startup %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
Common Start Menu %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Start Menu

If not, modify or add them.

Hello, I asked a friend to download the game in question and burn it for me; he did it and gave it to me.
I copied it onto my PC, then installed it without problems, so I think the issue came from an error during the download of the said file.
