Hello,
I have a problem since last week, my PC freezes on the welcome screen (blue screen) and then nothing. No access to Start, nothing when I press CTRL+ALT+DELETE, ... I've tried to boot in safe mode, normal startup with the same configuration as last time, with the Windows CD, etc.
I've been on other forums where they told me it might be because I have 2 users. But how can I access it since everything is frozen? I can only move the mouse cursor.
I don't know what to do anymore. Does anyone have any ideas?
Thank you in advance.

A priori, there is no reason for it to offer you to enter Windows XP Home Edition if you have the Pro version...
It's quite strange.
Note: in Safe Mode, you usually have an option that allows you to restart the last known good configuration. It doesn't work all the time but it's often very handy.
Otherwise, try to obey it anyway: once you're back in Windows, you should normally be able to restore your configuration to a previous date when it was working well (yesterday, last week, etc...) without losing personal data. -
Hi,
I've already tried that and it doesn't work. When I'm on the welcome screen I don't have access to anything at all.
Thanks anyway for your response. -
Hello, I have exactly the same problem with my laptop:
Windows starts normally, then gets stuck on the "Welcome" screen.
When I try to repair with the Windows CD, the computer works until the next reboot.
So for now, I have to leave my laptop on standby (it's been over a week).
In a similar style, on my Fix, when loading the desktop, I get a blue screen and nothing else.
I have indeed tried a fixboot and a fixmbr but nothing works.
As a last resort, do you know of a live CD to back up my data?
Thank you in advance for your responses.
Help me-
Hello, I have the same problem every time I start with Windows XP Pro. By pressing "Ctrl-Alt-Delete," it starts.
Have you changed your memory sticks?- I solved both of my issues.
For the desktop PC after a repair with the Windows CD, the graphic card drivers were poorly installed
I was getting a blue screen on startup.
So I booted in safe mode and then installed the drivers => it works perfectly.
As for the problem with the Welcome screen that wouldn't go away ==> I found no solution.
So I did:
1 a repair with the Windows CD,
2 an install of Partition Magic
3 Partitioning the HDD C: (system) and D: (data) to avoid losing all my data.
4 Formatting C:
5 New install of Windows and there you go.
Given the stability of this OS (meaning close to zero), I recommend always having a rack to be able to
connect your HDD to another PC and to always partition your disk.
Because with Windows, formatting is never far away.
At some point, when you’ve tried all the tricks, you have to resolve to formatting. - Hello, thanks for your reply.
I had just formatted the hard drive before this problem. However, to reinstall XP, the CD must be worn out or unreadable; the PC couldn't support it. I had to install Windows 98 first then XP Pro over it. I'm in the process of assembling an old PC for my son, I enjoy tinkering. Pentium 633 and 128MB of RAM. Maybe that's just it and could cause this "welcome" shutdown problem. Yet, I used to run XP with less than that!

Hello,
I don't think this is due to the fact that you have 2 users. Otherwise, many people would have the same problem!!
1- Did you recently install the SP2 pack?? A new version of Norton antivirus??
2- Try restarting in safe mode. During startup, keep tapping F8 until the safe mode option appears. -
Ok, I'll try to do that.
No, I haven't installed SP2. I have Panda as my antivirus.
Thank you for your reply. -
I tried and it doesn't work. In fact, there is a problem; when I choose safe mode, it asks me to choose a Windows version and only offers Windows XP Home Edition while I have the Pro version.
???
Besides, it's the same for any mode.
What should I do?
Thank you in advance. -

Hello,
I unplugged the scanner, modem, USB ports...printer and it worked again. Coincidence?
I had the same problem in normal mode and safe mode.
See you! -
HELLO
I CANNOT ACCESS THE RECOVERY CONSOLE.
THE SAME PROBLEM SINCE I INSTALLED SERVICE PACK 2, I CAN NO LONGER START WINDOWS. I TRIED TO ACCESS THE CONSOLE TO UNINSTALL PACK 2 AS ADVISED BY WINDOWS SERVICES, BUT NOTHING WORKS. WHEN I INSERT THE WINDOWS CD AND PRESS THE R KEY, INSTEAD OF A WELCOME SCREEN, I GET A BLUE SCREEN WITH "WINDOWS INSTALLATION" AT THE TOP AND THE FILES SCROLLING BELOW, AND IT SAYS "CHECKING THE SYSTEM," BUT NOTHING HAPPENS. WHEN I PRESS F2 AS INDICATED, IT TELLS ME TO INSERT THE DISC NAMED "WINDOWS AUTOMATIC SYSTEM RECOVERY DISK" INTO THE FLOPPY DISK DRIVE. MY PC IS CONFIGURED TO START WITH CD. THANK YOU FOR YOUR REPLY. -
Hello,
Have you solved your problem? Right now, I have the same one: XP freezes either at user choice or just after when I reach the desktop.
Thank you for your reply because I’m going around in circles.
PS: I’ve already tried safe mode but I can’t get back to normal functioning. -
Actually, at startup, you put in your Windows CD and it quickly asks you if you want to boot from the CD by pressing a key. So you boot with the CD under DOS. All you have to do is follow the installation steps and everything will fall into place.

I have Windows XP. My screen freezes on the blue background with "Welcome." So I turned off my computer. I removed the battery. With the computer turned off, I pressed the power button for 15 seconds. I turned everything back on. The first time, nothing worked. I repeated the experience a second time and everything was unlocked!
