Intel GMA X4500 performance

G45 and GMA X4500 HD: Intel's Home Theater Chipset
We learn a bit more about Intel's upcoming IGPs based on GMA 4500. They will be available in three versions, each featuring a different integrated graphics circuit.

Let's start with the high-end model labeled GMA X4500 HD. This one will be integrated into the upcoming Intel G45 chipsets expected to arrive in the second half of 2008. As its name suggests, it will be capable of hardware decoding some of the H.264 and VC-1 codecs used by HD DVD and Blu-ray discs. It will also support DDR3-1333 memory across four channels in dual channel mode.

Next comes the G43, also scheduled for the second half, which will not provide HD video acceleration with its GMA X4500 graphics circuit. However, it will still support DDR3-1066 memory in dual channel mode.

The G41 version is expected to debut early next year. It will distinguish itself from the G43 by the lower frequency of its GMA 4500 graphics circuit and its management of DDR3-1066 across only two channels, but still in dual channel mode.

Intel's response to the imminent GeForce 8200 and AMD 780G is therefore called GMA X4500 HD. We'll find out in the second half of the year whether Intel has managed to catch up on its competitors regarding high-definition video. It's also important to note that hardware decoding of HD formats is not the only aspect to consider. The ClearVideo post-processing filters will also need to compete with the PureVideo HD and Avivo HD engines, which are also expected to undergo a bit of an overhaul...

In my opinion, this integrated graphics processor (IGP) is very good for almost everything except gaming. For office work, media center, internet browsing... possibly games if you stick to ones that are over 2 years old... generally speaking, you should avoid IGPs for gaming. That doesn't mean that all dedicated graphics cards are good for gaming, but IGPs are equivalent in power to the low-end of dedicated graphics cards, often even lower than the low-end of the latest generation. So if it's for gaming, it's best to avoid them. Especially when I see games like GTA 4, you generally need a good configuration, with enough RAM, a good processor, and a good graphics card (to put it simply, a current mid-range one, to avoid having to change it in 6 months).

and a built-in webcam
- all of this is for a price of 567 euros, brand new of course

I have a Dell Vostro 1015 with the Intel GMA X4500 video card. The Sims 3 works well, even Call of Duty 6 runs fine for me.

After numerous execution attempts with different parameters,
I can tell you that on the Dell Inspiron One 19 Touch Desktop (integrated Intel GMA x4500 graphics card),
the following strategy games do not work:
- Cossack
- The Buccaneer
- American Conquest (installs and launches but has a lot of graphic bugs... I think it's a screen resolution issue because with different resolutions, the bugs are more or less significant.)

Same question as you ;) the Auchan site is good! Basically, the PC is not too bad but I think the graphics card is not great at all ;). So I'm waiting for confirmation, thank you in advance.
