Open an HTML file

Hello,

I can't open HTML files; I don't know how to do it!!!!
Do I need a specific program??? Normally, it should open with a web browser, so why doesn't it work
WITH Internet Explorer (existential question!)

+I downloaded the latest version of Acrobat Reader (9), but it doesn't support them!!
+I tried opening Explorer (default Google page), then minimized it, and attempted to open my files (by selecting Internet Explorer for opening)... still a weird page with "TITLE" and a lot of gibberish in an incomprehensible language (mix of English, Spanish?)
+I tried renaming my files to ".txt" by changing the extension (I replaced .html with .txt, I know it's very silly of me), then I went to Notepad/files/open, and there I couldn't find what I had modified; I had to do all the files because, of course, the computer didn't change the file type along with the name (x__x)

Anyway, I don't understand; it seems so simple!!!! I know I'm not very good with computers, but right now I feel completely abandoned, nobody to help me, and it's urgent!!! (they're lessons!!!!!!!!)

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

These are courses that I downloaded (I can do that) but they are in HTML format and I can't open them...
I haven't really changed much: to try to open them in Notepad, I renamed the end of my downloaded courses by replacing "html" with "txt", but that doesn't work...
I tried opening my downloaded HTML files with Word, Paint... well, quite a few programs (by clicking on browse), but I haven't tried Excel yet...

BREF!!!! lol otherwise I also tried from the small explorer at the bottom of the screen, right-click "open file location" and there it shows me
"Adobe Reader could not open because the file is not supported or the file is damaged: it was sent as an attachment and was not decoded correctly for example"

Wow, I thought Adobe couldn't open HTML files... I don't get it!

What is Mozilla Firefox??? Do I need to download it? Is it free? Actually, I feel like I need a decoder for this gibberish, but I have a recent version of Windows, so it would be strange if I didn't, right?

I'm going to try renaming to "htm", thanks for your answers, I'm quite distraught here

Hello,  Have you tried right-clicking on the file -> open with -> choose Internet Explorer -> OK?  Otherwise, you can rename it .htm  OR in Internet Explorer open... and choose your file...

Well yes, it's a browser that you need to use, with IE it should work, what's happening instead?
Try with Mozilla Firefox maybe.
The "weird writings" in English with TITLE is normal, you shouldn't use a text editor to open an HTML file.
What did you modify? With what software? For what purpose?
Try to detail a little ....

Well, after searching on Google, I came across messages from some users who had just bought a new computer with the Vista version... and they were also unable to open HTML pages!!!! (among other things..)
This kind of message is recurrent: I found 2 or 3 messages like this from users by typing on Google "problem opening certain pages on Vista"... These people are surely very nice, but the thing is they didn't bother to post the answer to their problem afterwards (how they managed to solve it, IF they did^^)
Well, the problem seems to come from Vista. But it's far from being resolved......
I still don't know what to do, I'm really in deep trouble because I need these courses as soon as possible
No one to help me, I live alone, the only people who could help me are on the other side of France!! I'm not going to call a technician and have him come just for that, right???
If the problem comes from Vista, what needs to be adjusted to fix it, the configuration??? It's too much for a novice like me lol I'm afraid of messing up my computer!!!
IF ANYONE KNOWS THE STEPS TO TAKE.... Please tell me!!!!

Hi,

in your browser, go to the "File" menu and then "Open File…".

look for your file on the disk, select it and confirm.

if it doesn’t work, download Firefox, install it and try with that.

I downloaded Firefox, and with this browser, it takes me to exactly the same page when I click on my downloaded documents (the gibberish text). I need to check with other people today to see if they're experiencing the same thing.
As for the link, it's more delicate; we are forbidden to share it with anyone who is not from the university (even our parents^^) because it's the professors' online courses. I have a username and a password to access this site, so there's no way I'm sharing them. It's all quite frustrating in the end because nothing is working out for me; fate must be against me!!

And what bothers you in the text? If it's the pseudo-Latin, it's not strange, it's just fictitious content, but in that case, you haven't downloaded the right files!

I join Txiki (hello to you!) in advising you to ask for help from the person who shares these files.

It could be a compressed file (it just helps lighten the page and thus speeds up its loading online), but in that case, the browser might not decompress it automatically because the server needs to indicate that the file is indeed compressed.
