Crop a photo into a circle

Hello,

I'm looking to crop photos into identical round formats. Do you have a simple and free tool for that? (I'm not familiar with photo software other than iPhoto, and I work on Mac).

Thank you in advance!
Configuration: Mac

Indeed, The GIMP is a good solution,

First, you need to select what you want to keep.

If you want to round the corners, just make a rectangular selection (the first tool in the toolbox) on your photo, and in the selection options (which are located under the toolbox) you choose "rounded corners" and select the radius.

If you want your entire photo to be a circle (perfectly round or flattened), you can make an elliptical selection (the second tool in the toolbox) and select what you want. If you want a perfectly round circle and not flattened at all, hold down the shift key while making your circle.

In both cases, if you didn't select exactly as you wanted on the first try, you can pull the corners and edges of the selection to adjust it.

To ensure you always make your selection the same size and shape from one photo to another, once you have selected correctly in the first photo, look in the tools and note the values that are in the "size" boxes. You can also check the "fixed" box and choose size, so that your selection is automatically the correct size.

Next, in the image window, go to the Layer > Transparency > Add Alpha Channel menu. If you don't do this step, there will always be a white background in your image, instead of being transparent where you want there to be nothing.

Then, if your selection does not go all the way to the edges of your photo, do Image > Crop to Selection.

Finally, go to the Select > Invert menu, and press Delete on your keyboard. And there you go!

All you have to do now is save it (File > Save As), in PNG format. For that, choose the name of your image, let's say you want to call it image, you will need to type image.png. If you save it as JPG, you will have a white background instead of having a transparent background.

I hope I have answered your question.
