PS3 failed to obtain IP address Solved/Closed

Question

Hello,
I would like to get some great help, because I really don't know anything about computers and my PlayStation 3 hasn't been able to connect since I bought a new laptop that connects via Wi-Fi; I have a Freebox.
So, I really need a lot of help!

No, I didn't understand how e-mule helps me connect with my PS3.
Before, I was everything on automatic...
So, that means: Adjustment Method: Easy -> Wireless Connection -> WLAN Settings: Manually Enter -> SSID: Freebox -> WLAN Security Settings: WEP -> WEP Key: ******* -> IP Address Configuration: Automatic -> Set DHCP Host Name: Do Not Set -> DNS Configuration: Automatic -> MTU: Automatic -> Proxy Server: Do Not Use -> UPnP: Enable -> {Backup complete} Test Connection:
- Obtaining IP Address: Failed
- Internet Connection:
- PLAYSTATION@Network:
- UPnP:
- NAT Type:

The time limit for obtaining an IP address has expired.

So that's what it does to me, I hope I have written everything down, if you see a problem, please let me know...
I remind you that it hasn't worked since I got my new laptop...

Yes, I think I know where the problem comes from, but I'm not sure.
Anyway, first check if your Freebox is not too far from your PS3.

Try again but not on easy, do it on custom by scanning and entering your WEP key, maybe you're making a mistake with your Freebox's SSID... (and do the same for the automatic settings)

Finally, try again and let me know if it still doesn't work.

I did what you told me, but unfortunately it still doesn't work. Otherwise, I was told that if I have the same IP address as my old C, which I am connected to via Wi-Fi, this could cause the connection failure.
So the guy suggested changing the IP address, but how do I do that? I'm completely lost.

Call your supplier's technical support and ask them to change your IP address remotely; I believe they can do it.

you need to go to run/cmd/ipconfig then go to the properties of your wireless network adapter/tcp ip protocol/and change the last value of your ip address. I think it might be the problem.

Hi Loic, the problem was that I didn't have enough Freebox connections, so I added more connections. [Basically, I reconfigured my Freebox for more Wi-Fi connections.] And now my PlayStation 3 can connect online without any issues. I consider this topic resolved and wish good luck to others. I know what your problem is! (I think) Do you have a wireless reception box? If not, you should. It's with the wireless reception box that's connected to your computer (which should have internet) that you're supposed to get your signal. When you log in to your PS3, you should go into your settings to change your reception to the one that's stronger. The strongest internet connection should be yours. So if nothing works, go to Source or Future Shop and ask for a PS3 to computer cable.  You're welcome and I hope it works. If you want, add me (frenchygermain30) Gus

There is a very simple solution to this problem; you just need to buy powerline adapters. One is plugged into the PS3 and the other into the modem. Then you connect the PS3 via cable and the problem is solved. There you go, see you later! For these adapters, you should budget at least 50 euros.

Hello everyone... I'm trying to figure out a solution with all these messages but to no avail... Until now, I had an SFR box, my PS3 was working fine online... but sometimes for a few days, nothing, no internet... Anyway, we decided to switch to a Freebox (and that's where the drama begins). I'm able to get Wi-Fi on my laptop (which is at the same distance as the PS3) but not on the PS3! I'm also getting the message; the time for obtaining an IP address has expired... I'm totally losing it, seriously, I don't know anything about this... my Freebox is at the other end of the shed but that wasn't a problem for the SFR box... I hope someone can help me :$
