My computer turns on but the screen goes to sleep.

Question

Hi everyone, I have a problem with my PC which is a Fujitsu Siemens running Windows XP.
When I turn it on, my screen automatically goes into sleep mode and if I turn the screen back on, it goes back into sleep mode. It's not the graphics card or the processor, I have already tried those.

I also think I have the same problem as you; I don't know what to do. First, I turn on my computer, but my screen stays black; it's in sleep mode -_-' So I thought it must be the graphics card that's failing, so I bought a new one. I tried it, and nothing happened; it's the same. However, when I turn on the computer, it makes a perfectly normal sound (the same as when it normally starts), except for a few times when the fan runs fast and we hear the noise (but I think that's due to how I turn off my computer; I hold down the "ON" button). I'm going to try unplugging my RAM sticks and plugging them into another slot. But I'm starting to doubt that it comes from the graphics card because its fan is running!!!
And I'm convinced it's not the screen because I tried plugging in another one in its place and still nothing!

Do you mean that you can hear the fans running?
Do you hear a beep?
Did you disassemble the PC before the problem? Did you install any new hardware? Move the PC?

Try to disconnect all the components (everything except the processor):
remove RAM, graphics card, except the processor.

Try to start the PC: do you hear beeps?

If yes, try to reinstall the components ONE BY ONE, see if it continues to beep with each addition.

Hi, no there is no beep. I have done almost everything, I removed all the components, took the motherboard, and installed the other components from my PC THAT WORKS, but it didn't work.

Yes, but there's something that intrigues me. When I take the HDD from the non-working PC and put it in the functioning one, I start it up with Windows XP. Then, when I quit, I click on Start, Shut Down the Computer, and I see Restart, Shut Down, and Stand By. The problem is that Stand By is not highlighted; it looks like it’s already activated. It might be why when I put it in the other PC and turn it on, the screen goes into standby.

Hi, I have a problem and I don't understand where it comes from. I bought a new graphics card, I installed it and everything, I even formatted the PC to have a clean setup. Everything was working well all day, the PC was running. In the evening, I turned off the computer to turn it back on later. The computer starts, but the screen stays in sleep mode. I turn it off and turn it back on, and it's still the same. However, the fan on my graphics card is running when the PC is on. I change the graphics card back to my old one, and the PC starts up fine. I turn it off, and to test it, I put the new one back in, and the computer starts up nicely. After about 10 minutes, the computer crashes, I turn it off, and then it does the same thing as before, which is that the screen stays in sleep mode. I put the old one back in, and it does the same. I put the new one back in, and it does the same—screen in sleep mode. Then there’s actually a beep when I turn it on, and it does this with both graphics cards, the new and the old. After about 2 hours, I put the new graphics card back in, and the PC starts up, and now I’m afraid to turn it off because I feel like it won’t turn back on. :s I don’t know where this could come from!

PS: the power went out while I was playing Counter Strike, I tried to turn it back on and that's when it crashed: could my motherboard be fried?

Hi everyone, well it’s the same for me, I turn on the CPU and the screen (everything is well connected) and my screen goes into sleep mode. It happened to me before and what I tried was to remove the battery in the CPU and put it back in, and it worked again, but now it doesn't work anymore even after changing the battery.
Any other ideas please?

I did a memory test, nothing suspicious... checked all the components except the graphics card. Reinstalled everything. I can't figure out where it's coming from..
2 leads: The power supply is not strong enough anymore, the graphics card (but I don't think so).

Hello, I just bought my PC in parts, and when I turn on the computer, the screen does not respond, but when I plug it in or unplug it, the screen turns on, but 2 seconds later it says no signal. I have tested the power supply, the screen, and the graphics card as well, but it works fine on another PC, so I don’t see where the issue could be.
I think the first bit frame indicates that the graphics card is on (so the screen lights up), and the others do not send anything (so no signal). Oh, and there are no beeps from my motherboard. After reading several explanations, I think the motherboard is defective, but being new, that surprises me.
