Wifi Connection Delay...! Solved/Closed

Hello,

An strange problem (as often in this field...!)

I have two places and Wi-Fi hotspots that I can use without issue: their owner gave me the key and I can connect.

Now there’s a third place (Tourist office) that just opened a Wi-Fi hotspot and allows their clients to connect.
They gave me the access key. The network is detected but when I try to connect and I’ve entered the key, it "returns" displaying "connection timeout".

It’s the correct key because when I enter an incorrect one I get a response saying that it’s not the right key.

I conclude that the dialogue between my Mac and the hotspot is not possible...
However, they (the tourist office) say that other clients are able to connect...!

Why is it that with certain Wi-Fi hotspots I can connect but with others I cannot? It’s not a matter of geography, I’m close enough to the hotspot.

Is there something to configure on my Mac or in the Wi-Fi box?

Thank you for looking into the issue. Unfortunately, it's one of the first things I did with no success, hence the infamous "Connection timeout" when I try to connect via "connect to another network..."

I'm really desperate.. =(

I hope someone has a solution because I'm having the same problem with a MacBook Pro. I've done permissions repairs, etc., etc., it's brand new too, but I can't connect via Wi-Fi to a Freebox, while other Macs and PCs can. I've tried different keys, WEP, WPA... nothing works, always the same message "connection timeout".

Test this,
In the network preferences, on OS 10.4, in the port configuration, drag Airport to the top of the list compared to Ethernet or others, to give priority to Airport. On OS 10.5 in configuration, at the bottom of the window, on the small drop-down wheel, set the service order to bring Airport right to the top.
In all cases, set the network preferences to automatic for all DHCP points and others. If necessary, create a new all-automatic configuration.
And finally, do not fill in any DNS information. If you really need to enter a DNS domain address, and there are several, press return after each address to move it to the next line and thus avoid having all the addresses on the same line.

You are right in saying that the problem should arise for other networks as well.
What's also possible is that this network is experiencing interference issues.
In this case, you need to enable "Interference Robustness" in the Airport options.

Does the problem occur at any time of the day? Or is it more likely when there is high "traffic" and thus possibly a limit on the network's bandwidth?

Otherwise, I don't see anything at the moment... :-(

In English, "délai" can be translated in different ways.
A delivery time would be called "delivery time."
The word "delay" in English usually means "lateness," but it can also mean "period" depending on the circumstances.
In this case, we could say "time to connect" as well as "connecting delay."

Is there anyone with a Mac who could test it with a Mac?

Hello

I'm writing to let you know that I found the solution. You need to change the channel for the router. By default, it's set to channel 11, but since all routers are set to this channel, it quickly gets congested. That's why there are disruptions. After changing the channel, it works perfectly.

I have a similar problem. I bought a brand new MacBook version 10.5.2 and I can't connect. I select my correct network and enter the WEP password (26 characters). Message: incompatible security. I don't understand, it's frustrating. Can you help me??

Thank you for the answers regarding the channel to set to channel 11. I had the same issue for 2 days; I changed the automatic channel to channel 11 in the Wi-Fi settings of my Sagem livebox (type http://192.168.1.1 to access it). And there, bam, it worked.

Hello, I’m glad to have finally found a forum that deals with the "connection timeout" issue, even if, given the date, it doesn’t seem very relevant anymore.. I hope someone can still reply because I’m desperate.
I’ve had a MacBook for three months and until now I’ve enjoyed flawless internet connection via the Wi-Fi from my Numericable modem at home, excellent speed, never any problems, never had to re-enter the WEP key. But two days ago, my connection suddenly stopped and since then when I re-select my Numericable network, which is clearly visible, AirPort doesn’t recognize it and displays "no network selected." However, on my dad’s PC, there are no connection problems. It turns out I can access FreeWifi thanks to a friend’s password and username that works everywhere.. Phew, I can still go online! But the connection isn’t nearly as good!

How can I regain access to my home network since AirPort seems to refuse to connect? By re-entering the WEP key, I get the famous "connection timeout.."

If someone could help me..

Thanks in advance, it’s already reassuring to see that those who had this problem have found - at least some of them, a solution.. However, I don’t know anything about modem configuration; cable or otherwise.. And it’s mainly that the modem has stopped being recognized without anything being changed.. Is it an update issue? But in that case, why only on my network?

This has happened to me with networks I had previously connected to.

Some "boxes" from Orange or SFR or... have a button like "reset" that allows a Wi-Fi device to connect to them for a certain period of time (about a minute). It's a sort of protection for these boxes so that only those who have identified themselves during that time are accepted. After that, the connection happens quite naturally.

Moreover, it's possible that these boxes are reset by the operator, which may mean that they no longer recognize previously connected devices, and you may need to repeat this reset operation.

GREAT! That's all sorted out!
I unplugged my modem (Numericable, NETGEAR), I checked the impact on the networks displayed by Airport, removed it from my preferred networks, and disabled Airport. I plugged the modem back in, waited for everything to reconnect, re-enabled Airport, displayed the networks, selected mine, re-entered my WEP.. AND there you go! Everything is working again!
Thank you so much for this tip, I'm over the moon, thank goodness for forums, it's pretty simple but I hadn't really thought about it!

You couldn't think of it because it's completely dependent on a logic programmed into these boxes.
And the logic of "some" is not the same as that of "others."
This problem does not exist with all boxes!

I didn't mention this thing from the start because it was still a matter of dealing with something other than the Mac, and there could have been a case where touching these boxes would reset them to their original settings, thus losing the changes you made.

In the Internet connection application, select AirPort in the network field and choose Other
A panel appears in the network name, click on the black triangle and select the connection ex: Orange efa5
In the wireless security field, select hexadecimal key, and not WEP password
enter view password.

Hello everyone, I just had the same problem with my Bbox.

The activation key was correct and other computers could connect to the same wifi network.

The problem came from the SSD chosen, indeed, some boxes offer 2 wifi networks, the normal wifi, and the wifi-5GHz.

For Apple devices, the SSD-5GHz is recommended and will work while the other is not compatible.
