Can you connect a DVD player to a computer?

Hello,

I wanted to know if it is possible to connect a DVD player to my laptop in order to watch a movie on the computer?

Or is it possible to watch Blu-ray movies on the computer? It's a Toshiba Satellite that is supposed to support high definition, but the Blu-ray doesn't work. I was wondering if it wouldn't be simpler to connect the DVD player directly to the laptop?

Thank you for your help (a somewhat desperate film buff)

Configuration: Windows Vista Home, Internet Explorer 7.0

Attention, the Blu-ray and Toshiba's HD DVD are two different formats.

The model of my Toshiba laptop is A210-1AT.
I don't know what I can do to be able to watch Blu-ray DVDs.

I was offered a special Blu-ray DVD player, but since I exclusively use computer tools and not a TV, I was wondering if it would be possible to connect it to the computer or another device to be able to watch it if it does not work through the computer's drive?

(I don't know if I was clear)

I looked at your Toshiba model, it doesn't have an HDMI port, too bad otherwise I think it could have worked with the player we want to lend you.
try connecting it to your TV...
