Hello,
I would like to connect a home video player (Pioneer BDP-170) to my laptop (MSI CX640 running Windows 7) because my built-in DVD player often has trouble reading certain DVDs. I thought it would be as simple as connecting the two with an HDMI cable, but the computer doesn't recognize the player. Is there a simple solution, or do I have to go through a monitor/TV?
Thank you for your insights.

unless I'm mistaken and subject to correction, your PC's HDMI port is an output and not an input
moreover, connecting your home player is only possible for photos or movies, a PPT file or others cannot be read by your home player
either you have your player serviced, or you buy one (standalone player/recorder)
