Hello everyone in the community :),
Here I will get straight to the point. I have a laptop that is almost 2 years old and I'm having a problem with the power supply. The computer is plugged in, but the power cable connected to the back of the laptop is giving me trouble. Indeed, since this morning, when I plug in the cable, the screen remains dark and the battery icon stays at the bottom right of the screen. To fix the problem, I have to wiggle the base of the cable until the laptop recognizes it. But I think this solution won't last long, so I hasten to ask for your advice. What is causing the problem?? Should I just change the power cable or disassemble the laptop (I've heard about soldering) or is the problem just temporary and could depend on the heat or the fact that I transported my laptop the day before???
Anyway, I have always found what I was looking for on this site, so I'm not worried. :)
Thanks,

Hello,
As a computer repair technician at a large company, a colleague brought me an Acer laptop with the same problem as yours.
After investigation and complete disassembly of the laptop, the issue became clear: the female socket for the power supply, meaning the connector soldered to the motherboard, is broken and makes contact with the male plug (the connector on the power supply side) only when the power connector is moved.
The solution is to find an identical connector and replace it on the motherboard.
I hope this helps you.

Hello,
These parts have several names:
- Socket
- Motherboard connector
- DC power jacks
- DC jacks
You can find them here among others:

Hello everyone,
It looks like it's the Acer disease, my laptop has the same symptoms!
Thanks to Jann for this information, but I would need some clarification on the repair. I found the connector through the links posted above (Acer Aspire 3000 model), is it easy to remove this connector and replace it? Do we need specific tools (soldering iron??)
Thanks in advance for your answers,
FAB,

Hello,
A bit late for regis59160:
The connector for the Samsung V25 is this one:
- https://www.connecteur-portable.com/fiche-connecteur-portable.php?ref=CCMSAV25%20%28pin%202.5mm%29
Attention Cazou:
Changing the connector on a laptop requires a lot of care:
- The longest part is disassembling and reassembling the laptop.
- The connector usually needs to be soldered.
If you are not sure of yourself: feel free to have the work done by a professional by bringing them the connector (compare labor prices: the differences can sometimes be significant).
Have a nice day,
Jann

Thank you Jann for the quick reply!
Is there a difference between the 7220 -202G16Mi and 7220 -202G12Mi?
Otherwise, I found this site that sells the same thing (?) but for 9€ instead of 30€. Do you think it's the same thing?
Have a good day.

Hi Jann, I hope you'll see the message soon since it’s been almost a year. I have an Acer Aspire 5735 with a broken base, and I would like to know the reference because, on top of that, the cable is starting to fray from being twisted in all directions, and that’s not ideal, so I also need to buy a new cable.
I hope you'll respond quickly.

Good evening Jann,
actually, I went to an electronics store and they repaired my cable ............for 12 euros and I can charge my laptop again
however, I have another problem: my laptop suddenly shuts down after a while whether it's plugged in or on battery;
apparently, they didn't reconnect the fan because it's not running anymore; it's an overheating issue.
Is it difficult to reconnect the fan myself??
Thank you

Hello, you seem to know a lot about PCs, so here’s the thing: the connector on the computer where you plug in the charger is broken. I took the laptop apart and I saw clearly that it's broken, so I wanted to know which connector to get for an Acer Aspire 1363 WLMi. Also, if you have any addresses for where I can have it soldered, I’m in the Landes department. Thanks in advance.
Hello Steve,
Regarding the Acer 1363 laptop, you will find the connector at these links:
http://www.laptopjacks.com/view_part/Fujitsu-Laptop-DC-Power-Jack-FJ51820.html
http://www.s2i33.com/product.php?id_product=2092
I don't know any laptop repair technicians in the Landes yet: you'll have to go through the directory and call computer repair services until you find the right one!
Good luck!

I already had this problem and it was because a component in the computer had come loose which must have caused a short circuit, but since then it works again, you just need to know someone skilled in IT and soldering.
Classic failure,

Hello,
I have a little problem with the power cable of my Acer Aspire 5737Z laptop.
In fact, the cable that normally came with the laptop was no longer working, so I bought a universal cable (an adapter with several tips).
But recently, I've noticed that the light has been having trouble turning on... I think it might be a loose connection... I can still fiddle with it to keep the light on, but I don't know if I'll be able to do that for much longer... Please help me.
Is it a loose connection? Can I continue like this? Should I see a specialist?

Hello everyone,
I have a bit of the same problem, the power supply disconnects after about 30 minutes of the PC running...
I see that Jann knows quite a bit about this field, I wanted to know: if you have a soldering iron, a bit of solder, and you can do some tinkering, is it possible to do it yourself for changing the power connector? Or is it really complicated?
Laptop: Acer TravelMate 2700
Thanks for any information!

Hello bardylaire,
If soldering holds no secrets for you, then this should be doable.
Where you need to be careful is during the disassembly of the laptop: depending on the brands and models, it requires a lot of precision and delicacy. You will likely need to disassemble the entire laptop to easily access the connector to be resoldered.
Good luck,
Jann

Here it is, so I actually have an Acer Aspire V5 laptop, and for about two days now, when I plug in my charger to charge it, it doesn't charge; there's a bad connection. When I pull the cable a bit, it charges, but as soon as I let go, it stops charging. What should I do? (Considering my laptop is not even a year old, it works very well.)
Hello, I have exactly the same problem with my laptop (Toshiba Satellite L300-12K) and I would like to know which base to buy, please.
Thank you in advance.
Thank you in advance.

Hello Jahn,
Help, my son dropped dad's computer, and from what I'm reading, it's the power connector that's broken, we can’t see it anymore and when we move the laptop it makes a jingling sound!
Could you help me find a website and a reference to buy the part, please? The laptop is an Acer TravelMate 6410. And do we have to replace this part (because I don’t know how to do it!) or are there power adapters and USB options, for example? Thank you very much for your help, Gaelle.

Hello petitbelleaug,
The connector for the laptop is this one:

or
http://s2i33.dyndns.org/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=74_100_106&products_id=536
However, this is a component that needs to be soldered: you either need to have good knowledge in this area, or you should have it repaired by a specialist: some computer retailers do laptop repairs.
If you are in the Greater Southwest, I can give you some addresses.
Have a nice day,

Hello everyone.
I see that there are numerous power issues. And there are a few actions to take in order to identify the actual failure of the computer.
Follow the current circuit to eliminate potential faults one by one.
- Check that there is indeed a light on the power cable transformer.
Otherwise ---> your wall outlet is not working
----> an electronic component inside the transformer has burned out.
If yes
- Check that current reaches the end of the wire. The cables are sometimes crushed in office doors, etc. Use a tester to check the voltage at the male plug. You should generally have 19V (the info is written on the back of the transformer output: 19V)
Otherwise ---> your cable is cut, crushed, in short, not transmitting anything; it's time to replace it.
If yes
- Verify that the female connector (the one in the PC) is indeed receiving current and transmitting it to the computer. This is a frequent failure with the connector being mishandled during travel, bad transport, feet getting caught in the cable, in short, anything that can put pressure on the connector.
For that, plug in the power supply and check that the charge indicator lights up (small green or orange light)
If no light, "jiggle" the plug and watch for the intermittent lighting of this small light.
If the light comes on after "jiggling" the plug intermittently, then there is a bad connection.
The connector needs to be changed or resoldered. The bad news is that to access it, a complete disassembly of the computer is necessary.
I'm in this situation with an ACER Aspire 3000. The pin inside the connector is loose and no longer transmits current.
Before you start disassembling, be aware that everything must be taken apart: keyboard, screen, upper frame, and finally, after about thirty small screws and some ribbons or disconnected cables, you will be able to access the motherboard. Never force it! If it resists, there's a cable or a hidden screw (under the keyboard, between the screen and the computer...)
If there is never any light, either the connector is too damaged to create a small contact even when jiggling, or an internal component has burned out, and then.... we start to cry.
(If you feel overwhelmed and desperate to recover the hard drive data one day, know that it’s quite easy to retrieve everything. Remove the hard drive and connect it to another computer like a USB drive)
I'm not a computer expert at all, just curious to see if I can repair this ACER that used to work very well.
I hope my information helps you.

Hi,
well, I'm disgusted!!!!!!!!!!
the girl calls me to tell me some good news and some bad news
my connector is repaired, it costs 110 euros
the charging port is supposedly fried, that costs 82 euros
We thought about buying the "universal" charging port, except I don’t know what they have messed up: a DIY thing so that I buy their 82 euro port for sure!! but the thing is even the universal charging port won’t work! What if my port hadn’t fried and if it was a scam to make me pay 82 euros more??
Could I get your opinions please??
I’m putting a photo of my super new connector

Good evening Angy,
The connector of a laptop is specific; it should be "normally" replaced identically.
In your case:
- The work is clean, but I don't feel that the connector is identical to the original.
- The cost of €110 for this work is within the "national" average: nothing to say.
However:
- €82 for the power supply seems quite expensive to me, and the fact that both the power supply and the connector are faulty is very rare; usually, it's one or the other.
I would be very curious to see what the power supply for the connector looks like in the photo...
I should have answered your question regarding repair people in the South-West... but I was pressed for time.
At this point, you have no choice: to get your laptop back in working condition, you'll have to get the power supply... unless you manage to find the reference to get it cheaper elsewhere...
Best regards,
Jann

Hello Jann,
to be honest, I really feel like I've been scammed;
before my laptop ran out of battery, we couldn't connect the cable to charge it anymore: it no longer stayed in the connector; in the end, is it my connector that was faulty or the power charger? I really wonder when I read your comment about it.
Yes, I also find their work neat, but as you thought: the connector isn’t identical to the original. I have a feeling they did it "on purpose" so that I would pay for the connector + the new power charger;
anyway, the total bill of 192 euros for a laptop I paid 400 euros for really gets on my nerves!!
I don't know what to do if I take it to a competitor or an electronics technician because I probably just need to find some kind of intermediate plug that would connect the connector to the charger, right? Well, it's true that I don't know anything about this and right now, I’m really frustrated!!

Well, I called them back this morning to explain that I had doubts about their seriousness, etc.
1 - She doesn’t want to give me the references for the connector they installed on my PC.
2 - She doesn’t want to lower the price of her power charger as she claims to buy hers for 70 euros.
Indeed, every customer who comes in for a connector issue leaves with a charged charger... pfff, what a scam!!
Apparently my charger is really dead, but well, maybe they burned it themselves?!
And even if it still worked, I couldn’t plug it in since the connector isn’t the original one...

a strange coincidence then?
I brought back a computer to fix the power connector, and they returned it to me with the adapter needing to be changed because it’s burnt out and the fan as well, even though it was working perfectly before...
ugh, it really frustrates me to think about going to see those people again.............
thank you for your response anyway

Good evening
I have an Acer laptop series 4100 (more precisely Extensa 4102 WLMI) with probably a broken connector (I detected a bad contact and now it’s practically impossible to get it to work on AC power.
What model of connector should I buy to replace the existing one?
P.S.: My laptop is completely disassembled. I followed the procedure found on the following site: http://basstonweb.free.fr/demontage_acer.htm
If I can't find a connector, I can solder 2 wires to then connect an external connector to the laptop, but is that really reasonable?
Thank you for your help

Hello Jann,
My name is Mahrez and I live in Toulouse.
I read this topic which seems very interesting and I hope you can help me.
I have an Acer 7535G that had an issue with a loose connection at the female power jack (the charger is currently tested on another laptop).
After fiddling around, blowing, and shaking the male and female connectors, the loose connection from just 10 minutes ago turned into no connection at all.
I conclude that there is a soldering problem between the base of the female jack and the motherboard.
I plan to see a repair technician tomorrow but since I only have 60 unfortunate euros left before my overdraft is forbidden ^^ I really don't want to end up paying for another power supply, battery, or charger...
Would you have any wise advice, please?
Best regards.
Hello, I asked a question on this forum before the end of year celebrations, but no one wants to answer me, so I am still looking and I came across this topic where I noticed that there are a lot of knowledgeable people in the field, so here is the link to my topic https://forums.commentcamarche.net/forum/affich-15851575-quand-je-branche-mon-cable-d-alim-mon-ordibug
