[Batterie] Battery not charging anymore

I MAY HAVE FOUND THE CAUSE / SOLUTION!! Explanations below...

I bought a (NEW) HP DV6512 Notebook almost 2 months ago, and I have nothing to complain about it, except that I got fed up with VISTA and I installed XP PRO after struggling for several days to find all the right drivers. Anyway, it's all good now.

This afternoon, panic hit... My laptop wouldn’t turn on at all! I don’t understand, I used it plugged in last night so it can't be out of battery. Except that the little protective sheet we insert between the screen and keyboard when the notebook is closed seemed to turn on the computer by itself via the touch keyboard.

Anyway, the computer would only turn on WHEN CONNECTED to the power supply. When it was on and I unplugged it, it would immediately indicate "Battery level too low", and shut down in less than 5 seconds!!

I then put the computer to recharge. However, I noticed that the charge indicator was blinking blue rapidly. No matter how many attempts I made, it was always the same. The battery would not charge at all!!

I searched online and saw someone who mentioned that by disabling the low battery alert in Windows, they realized that the battery actually lasted a long time, as if Windows was misestimating the battery. So I tried (via right-click on DESKTOP, Screen Saver, Power Management, Disable Alerts) but nothing changed.

THEN on the HP website, I saw that you can calibrate the battery by pressing [F6] when turning on the computer. So I turned off the computer and tried this method, but nothing happened when pressing the key, so I took a look in the BIOS [F2]. Well, that’s not where you calibrate the battery.
My BIOS was displayed in English so I just chose the French option.

And then when the computer restarted, I didn’t understand anything: THE CHARGE INDICATOR STAYED ON AS IF IT FINALLY WAS CHARGING THE BATTERY.
I waited a good while, unplugged the power supply, and then MIRACLE, the computer restarted without being plugged in, and the battery then showed 90% charge!!!! Well, it still needs to be left plugged in!

So a bug from where?? To think that I almost deprived myself of my computer, 3 weeks at HP's service center!!
Well, I’ll see how things go in the coming days, you never know, but it turns out it wasn’t the battery that was dead!

This may be due to a problem with the battery connectors being damaged, which is common.

Remove your battery and check if you see any damage to the battery connectors.
If that's the case, the after-sales service will be your friend.
Or maybe it's just not plugged in properly ^^

So I had the same problem. Here's what I did:

-I set it to energy saving mode.

-I hid the battery indicator! (right-click on the taskbar, then properties, notification area and uncheck)

-Then I turned off my laptop.

Unplugged the charger

Removed the battery

I blew on the connectors!

Then I put the battery and charger back in and it was good to go for another round!

Even though it's a Toshiba, have you tried any of the things I attempted... In any case, I'm fine, I've never had battery issues. I don't know what happened...

Why not try:

Double click on the battery icon at the bottom right. And in the properties, try to disable it at the discharge % level... Confirm
Then restart the computer and see what happens, if it charges?... And remember to reactivate the discharge % signal...

Otherwise, one idea could be to go to a store, casually, where they have the same model (for example, on display) and ask them if they can just try putting their demo laptop's battery in yours, just to see if it charges with their battery.
At least you would know if the issue is with the battery or the computer... Or even the power cable?...

I had a battery issue with an HP Probook and ended up here.
Originally, the PC wouldn't turn on at all with its battery: it was stuck on the BIOS screen with the HP logo.
It only restarted when plugged into the power charger with the battery removed.

The HP Battery software test told me to replace my battery.
And despite all the attempts mentioned here, nothing worked.

Under Windows, the status of the charging icon said: plugged in, not charging.

I tried some things, including the last manipulation:

- Leave the battery in the PC
- Disconnect the power charger
- Hold down the power button on the PC
- Plug in the power charger while holding down the power button

The PC eventually turned on after a few seconds (2 or 3).
And now under Windows, I have the status of the icon as: plugged in, charging.

So it's an improvement :)
The battery might still be dead, but we'll see about that in a few hours.

In any case, there is a reaction to this manipulation that might work for others...

I have a DELL, and my battery hasn't been charging for a while. My father advised me to buy a new one, but now it's doing something strange. On DELL laptops, there is a small light to indicate if it's powered on (a small white light), in sleep mode (the white light turns off and then back on), or about to shut down if there’s no battery left (a red light).

But now the red light is blinking 4 times, and then the white light stays on for a few seconds. It doesn’t affect the performance of the computer; I just find it strange or if it's normal. Thank you.

After trying all the solutions proposed here, only one worked :) : Flashing the BIOS.

I believe I had this problem by letting the battery completely discharge (0%) several times, especially since the PC is still new...

Don't be afraid to flash your BIOS because during the installation process, all necessary precautions will be indicated and there will even be a compatibility check between the currently existing BIOS version and the one downloaded from the manufacturer's official site, as well as a check regarding the release date (at least that was my case...) ...

PS: you need to check the model number, which is not necessarily the commercial name of the model... for example, mine is DV9655ez and not DV9500...
