Hello, I just bought a HP PAVILION DV6000 laptop with Vista. The problem is that I plug in the battery but it doesn't charge; it says plugged in, not charging. I saw on a forum that someone had the same issue and that they updated the BIOS and now it works fine; I've never done a BIOS update and I don't want to mess up my laptop. I also don't want to return my laptop as it took me 2 months to receive it instead of one week. Thank you for your tips and other advice. Referring to this discussion

Bonjour,

je viens d'acheter un pc portable HP PAVILLON DV6000 avec vista .

le problème c'est que je branche la batterie mais cela ne charge pas , ça me dit branché pas en charge .

j'ai vu sur un forum que quelqu'un avait le même problème et qu'il a fait la mise a jour du bios et la sa fonctionne bien ;

moi la mise a jour du bios je ne l'ai jamais fait et je ne voudrais pas planter mon pc .

Je ne veux pas non plus retourner mon pc j'ai pris 2 mois pour la recevoir au lieu d'une semaine .

merci à vous pour vos astuces et autre conseils.

Hello everyone!!!

I had the same problem as everyone else on this forum, and I think I have solved the issue. I have an HP 6000 and the battery wasn't charging anymore. So, I removed the battery while keeping the power cord plugged in and the PC on. I waited for the small icon at the bottom right of the Vista desktop to show me that the battery was no longer there. Then, I put the battery back in its place, still with the PC on, and miracle of miracles, when I hover over the icon at the bottom right it shows me "plugged in, charging." I have an answer that could help a lot of people.

I have a DELL Inspiron 1525 running Vista, my problem was that I had plugged my PC into the power supply (with the battery) and the battery notification displayed (plugged in, not charging). I checked the status of my battery in (Control Panel, Power Options, Battery Meter) and it showed "Inactive". I then contacted Dell's technical support and here's what they told me to do:

 1. Shut down your computer normally (Start, Shut Down) 2. Remove the battery from the computer and unplug the charger. 3. Press and hold the power button for 20 to 25 seconds. (To completely drain the computer). 4. Reinsert your battery, then reconnect your charger. 5. Turn on your computer normally. 6. The problem is solved;)

Hello,
Referring to this solution, I stopped the PC and removed the battery.
I restarted the computer and kept my finger on the power button for 45 seconds; it wanted to start and then shut down immediately (let it happen).
Then, I turned it back on and replaced the battery, and it started charging.

Thank you. Everything worked out. By the time I did it and came back here, the charge went from 0% to 10%.

Thank you for the advice, I followed the instructions and it worked. The battery is plugged in and charging now.
Before this battery issue, I had a similar one, but it didn't recognize the battery due to the high brightness of my computer, which caused the battery to become defective. To have it repaired, it cost me 111.23 euros for the battery replacement plus a file fee that cost me 19 euros and cents included with the repair.

I eventually found the instability of the charging system: it's the battery temperature that is to blame. You're running on battery power; it's quite hot. You reconnect the charger, and Vista prevents charging. It's annoying because the laptop remains powered by the battery, and it can't cool down until... it shuts off completely!
The solution, mentioned several times: let the battery COOL DOWN by removing it for 5 minutes, for example.

Hi,
I have a COMPAQ 615 and like everyone here, I get the message "0%, plugged in not charging."
I’ve tested everything, and nothing has worked.
I don't think it's a battery problem because it’s always cold. I'm afraid it might be an issue with the battery charger, but I'm not sure. As soon as I unplug the charger, my laptop shuts down. I’ve tried countless things with the battery, still nothing. Please let me know other alternatives.

Hello everyone!

The "not charging" issue has appeared on my computer, a Lenovo T61 running Vista Pro. I read your discussions, and I believe the solution is neither to be found in the BIOS nor in the motherboard. To me, it's Vista's power management that's messing things up, because if I'm not mistaken, no XP systems are affected. So, as often with Windows, it's going to require (a lot of) patience and some personal tweaks (unplugging and replugging the battery...) It's a matter of computer stability; if there were a loose connection, analyzing the charge level would be impossible...

I have a Lenovo Y710 and the "plugged in, not charging" problem appeared over a week ago. I've read almost all of your advice and tried most of the solutions, like the one from Mikz92, but nothing works. The laptop shuts down if I unplug the charger, and the battery level is visible and slowly decreases.

Hello, my battery only charges up to 79%. When it reaches 79%, it says "plugged in, not charging." I think I set a parameter some time ago to extend battery life, but I can’t modify that setting now... If anyone can help me!! :( (The battery is new)

I have an HP Pavilion dv9000. I also had this battery issue tonight (plugged in, not charging), and I did what Soyooz suggested: I unplugged and then replugged the battery while keeping the computer on, and it works (plugged in, charging).

On my Dell, I have a small checkbox to enable or disable battery charging.
Maybe you have something similar. Check the battery options.

Hello,

I bought the same PC as you, and I had the same problem.
At first, I went to look online, but I didn't see anything.
Since I was using the computer on my bed, I thought my battery was overheating.
So I didn't unplug it, I removed the battery, waited for the battery to cool down a bit (it was burning hot), and then I put it back in.
Since then, it charges.

I had this problem with an HP Pavilion dv 9660ef. I too turned my computer on and removed the battery. I waited 5 minutes, then I put the battery back in place (computer still on) and it started charging again. Not difficult to do.
