Read-only USB drive

Solved

Hello,

I have a problem with my USB drive. It tells me that the disk is read-only as soon as I try to put something on it. Yet I haven't locked it...

I can't format it or do anything at all.

Could a virus be the cause of this problem?

I tried it on other machines and the result is the same...

Can someone help me?

Hello,
I just spent 2 days trying to unlock my key, which had been blocked after being inserted into a machine that wasn't mine.
After attempting all the functions of "diskpart," "usb-protector," "RMPprepUSB," and more, I had to face the facts: the problem was deeper. It wasn't a blockage that could be removed by simply redefining the key's properties (partition, format, MBR sector, or otherwise). The blockage came from an instruction given by the machine that changed the firmware of the key. The only solution was to flash the key back to its factory version (as it was when purchased). My only advice, after over 10 hours on different devices, is this: type into Google (or another search engine) "flash USB key XXXXX ZZZZ from TTTT," where X is the brand, Z is the model, and T is the size. The manufacturer of the key provides a program that resets the key to its original state. 10 minutes later, the key was functional again. Simple, effective, and ultimately so logical.

Hello everyone.

@ Arbre69 & Alekxs: Big up!

@Everyone: Download the manufacturer’s factory reset software for the USB key. In 5 minutes, problem solved. Forget the multiple registry manipulations, think manufacturer restore ;) !

Thanks to all the forums for existing.

Long live the free world!

Hello community, I'm providing an alternative solution because in my case Sandisk has not provided software to flash the drive. Read-only mode is a safety device to protect data in case of firmware corruption, resulting in the drive going read-only and becoming unusable. For my part, it was a 128GB SDDDC4 drive from SanDisk. The product support offered me a replacement for the deemed defective drive, and to prevent the copying of the data contained in the returned drive for exchange, you can make it unusable by overwriting it.... Good luck.
