file too large to copy Solved

Question

Hello,

I have a .iso file that is about 7 GB and I'm trying to copy it to my external hard drive.

The problem is that I receive an error message saying that the file is too large.

Is this normal?
Is there a way to fix this?
Would compressing the file into an archive be a solution?

Configuration: Windows XP Firefox 3.0.6

For your information, it’s likely that your external hard drive is formatted in FAT32. This format does indeed limit the file size to 4 GB, which is why you encounter an error whenever this threshold is exceeded, regardless of the software or operating system used.

The only solutions are: change the format (NTFS, exFAT, etc.), or reduce the file size.

I tried the method mentioned in this similar thread.  http://www.commentcamarche.net/forum/affich 10340953 copy a large file hdd fat32  It works perfectly.

UPDATE !
I had the same problem. So, I formatted my drive to NTFS, but it still didn't work. Then, I wondered what "allocation units" were for. I formatted by setting the value to 8192 bytes. I placed my file and, as if by magic, it copied over. Coincidence? I don't think so! Please share your feedback if it works for you too.
