PS3 display "unsupported mode" Solved/Closed

Question

Hello,
I have a problem with the display of my PS3 with my HD ready TV via HDMI; everything was working fine before, but for the past 2 days, it hasn't been working: black screen with a message that says, "unsupported mode."
I pressed the power button several times (5 seconds, 10 seconds), 1 beep, 2 beeps, ...
I tried using the SCART cable, which works, and then switched back to HDMI, but it shows the same message again.
The HDMI still doesn't work!!!
DO YOU HAVE A SOLUTION?

Hello everyone,

Well, I have a solution to your problem because my console was working perfectly at my girlfriend's on her LG flat screen, but it wouldn't work at mine on my Samsung, it kept saying "mode not supported". I had no access to the PS3 mode; if I put in a game, it would start, but it was impossible to go into the console settings. So, I took it to Micromania, and they found it strange, so they plugged it into the store's screen and it did the same thing. They then held down the power button for about twenty seconds, and then, like magic, the console displayed the message "do you want to save the new display settings". He clicked "yes", I came back home, and now it works perfectly. I had tried HDMI cables, SCART cables, AC-AV cables, but nothing worked. The secret is simply to hold down the button for about twenty seconds, and the message will display by itself. If it doesn't work for you, take your console directly to Micromania; they fixed mine in less than 10 minutes.

I have a PS3 that I connected initially to a CRT TV.
I bought a Sharp full HD LCD yesterday
and I can't get the HDMI cable to work
I pressed the PS3 button for 5 seconds and still nothing
while there was no problem with the SCART cable

There are several display formats. 1080 and i1080. (other formats can be checked, this will not cause conflicts)  You certainly chose the wrong one.

Hello I had the same issue, you need to uncheck 1080P in the display mode. After that, everything works again.

Resolved for me.
I have a hd-ready 1080p24 (that's what it's called now) Samsung 40a568.
A PS3
And three HDMI cables of varying quality.

After 4 hours of gaming, I found myself stuck like wutang79.
I was playing MGS3 (PS2), the game crashes, I restart, and I get the lovely unsupported mode message.
I read a couple of forums, pull out my old multiAV plug and do the reset (5 sec) to exit HDMI mode, it works, I get my screen back but in 576p.
I switch back to HDMI and nothing works, for an hour I try every possible and unimaginable combination, nothing.
Well, my TV is full HD 1080p supported, the PS3 uses HDMI 1.3, so it's just the cable left.
I pull out my HDMI 1.3 Profigold 10 meter, reserved for the projector normally, I change the cable, and there you go!!! The PS3 is back in HDMI.

My hypothesis to confirm, the PS3 freezes in 1080p, you can switch from 576i to 1080p by choosing or not multi-AV, HDMI, but as soon as you switch back to HDMI, it automatically gets stuck at 1080p, it would have been necessary in the PS3 menu to be able to switch back to 720p forced before switching back to HDMI.
I'm going to try now to switch back to 1080i, put my crappy cable back and see if it works or not.
Well, it's still a mess, I'm glad I didn't make my slots in the wall for my HDMI cable that doesn't support 1080p, it would have required tearing everything apart.

It comes from the HDMI cable (I think), try changing it (my buddy had the same issue).

Thank you very much for the explanations about changing the 1080 resolution. I solved my problem by lowering the resolution of my PS3 and then setting it back to automatic.

Hello everyone,
well I have a small problem that isn't really a big deal but it's still annoying when it happens
so, I have my PS3 connected to my LCD TV (Sharp 32" LC32D44E).
I turn on my PS3, everything is fine, I start my game (FIFA10) and it works perfectly
while I was in the middle of a match I accidentally turned off my TV, so I turn it back on, and boom, black screen, it no longer detects the HDMI. So since I know the buttons, I press the PS button and turn off the system and just before it turns off, the HDMI is recognized.
However, when I play PES2009 in the middle of a match, I turn it off, then I turn it back on and boom, it turns on normally.
And finally when I listen to music, when I turn off the screen, I turn it back on and boom, black screen.
Could someone explain to me why this happens????

Hi, I also have a display problem but it's really minor; there's just a kind of flickering, it's weird (I have a Techwood HD ready TV).

Display settings of your console, change the display mode.  Otherwise, hold down the power button on your console and it will adjust automatically.

I have exactly the same problem with a Philips full HD television, the motherboard has been changed twice, the Dvico player has been sent for repair three times and they haven't found anything wrong with it. And, according to Philips, the television has no issues either. If anyone has a solution, I would be interested.
