Help! need someone skilled in CGraphics!

Hello,
I'm posting this message as a last resort because I can't take it anymore, I've been looking for a solution every night for a week in vain!

Here's my problem:

I built a PC for my brother and there's a big problem with the graphics card!!!

It starts up normally, I get to the desktop, at that point I'm in 256 colors 32 bits. So far, so good.

But when I try to install the graphics card drivers to be able to play, there’s a huge problem! Most of the time, once the files finish copying, the screen goes black and it stays that way until I power off (even after an hour, nothing changes). And when they do install and I restart, my issue is still there, namely:

Once the computer restarts, the visual quality is absolutely terrible, even reading a sentence is like deciphering it!

When I right-click on the desktop, in display settings, in the card tab it sees nothing, all the fields are empty (manufacturer, card, etc.) it says something like vgasave, that’s it). And I'm stuck in 640x800 (something like that) and 4-bit colors!! However, in the device manager, it does see the card, and even dares to tell me that it’s functioning properly!

So for now, I've uninstalled the GPU drivers, even though we can't play, we can still go online!

I've tried all nvidia drivers for the card, from the ones provided to the beta version from January 10, 2008. The result is always the same! I even flashed the motherboard BIOS and nothing changed. I installed win2000pro and that didn’t help either, I need to test it with Vista to see if it resolves the issue!

Here’s the config:

AMD X2 5000+
Motherboard: MSI K9N SLI 2F
1GB DDR2 667
400GB HDD
Nvidia Geforce 8600 GTS (which is causing me so many problems)

all running on XP Pro

If anyone has an idea, a software that allows for driver installation in a different way, or a command cmd, I just don’t know what else to try,

help me pleaaaaase, I'm on the edge of the abyss!

Hi,
are you sure you have everything properly connected?
that the information from the card communicates correctly with the motherboard?
that it's compatible?

download Everest to get useful information about your computer.

Hi,
so with Everest it gives this:

drivers not installed, it doesn't give me any info, all the tabs concerning the graphics card are empty!

when I install the drivers, only the Windows video tab gives me something, the other tabs (video, GPU, monitor) are empty:

the Windows video tab:

Field Value
Video card properties
Device description NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS
Card identification GeForce 8600 GTS
BIOS identification Version 60.84.32.00.01
Circuit type GeForce 8600 GTS
DAC type Integrated RAMDAC
Installed drivers nv4_disp (6.14.11.6928 - nVIDIA ForceWare 69.28)
Memory size 256 MB

Yet I did install the latest drivers downloaded directly from the NVIDIA website!

I'm putting the screenshots of what I have (drivers not installed) because once I installed them, there are no longer the 3 conflicts we see in screen 2.

I will tell you to access the BIOS but it's risky...
I don't see any solutions...

Hi

Have you plugged in the 6-Pin PCI Express connector???

Because I believe it comes equipped with one, maybe it doesn't have enough power to function properly.
Either you have a cable intended for this purpose from the power supply or an adapter was provided with the graphics card.

Yes, I've plugged it in! I'm hesitating to send it back, I hope they'll take it back at Rue du Commerce

Thank you for your responses anyway, I hope one of you has a genius idea! lol

Ok, so before sending it back, test the graphics card on another PC.
If the problem is still there, then yes, send the graphics card back.

by any chance

Installation tips:

Before installing new drivers, make sure to uninstall all installed NVIDIA display drivers using the Windows Control Panel. Select Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs, search for "NVIDIA Windows Display Drivers" or "NVIDIA Display Drivers" then select Uninstall

For littlebig man, I do it every time, it's even obvious. As for testing on another PC, I'll try to see about that tomorrow because my PC is in AGP :/

News!

I called rueducommerce and they are going to give me a credit of €126 on their site. With this amount, what do you recommend on the site? (a graphics card of course) Because I see a lot of 8600gt and gts but I’m a bit afraid that it won't work again, what do you think of ATI instead? (it would be for use mainly focused on video games)

Thank you all
