Problem with TSSTCORP TS-H653L drive

Hello,
Owner of a HP Pavilion desktop computer for about a month working perfectly. Yesterday the TSSTCORP CD/DVDW TS-H653L drive stopped working although it had been functioning well before. The drive opens, takes the CD or DVD, the small green light on the drive flashes for a while then nothing happens and it tells me that there is no CD in the drive and ejects the disc...
So I would like to know what to do?! And if it's possible to solve my issue with software or drivers for this drive?!
Thank you in advance for your responses...
Configuration: Windows Vista Internet Explorer 7.0

Before performing a boot test, check this:

Press and hold the start (or Windows logo) key and simultaneously press the R key.

In the window that opens, type REGEDIT and confirm.

Click on the small arrow in front of "HKEY LOCAL MACHINE." A small list will unfold. Click on the small arrow in front of the "system" line and so on until you reach this line:

HKLMACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Just left-click on the bold number above. Values will be displayed on the right side.
Check if there are values called lowerfilter and upperfilter. If so, right-click on those values and delete them.

Restart the PC.

The correction of the registry seems to have solved my problem with the TS-H653L drive.
I can never say enough how much I think Vista is absolutely terrible!!!!!

But above all, thank you because I have done at least ten tests blaming the DVD manufacturer.

Thank you for the advice! It works great now. I had the same problem with my DVD player.
Fortunately, kind souls take the time to help us get out of complicated situations!
Thanks again.

Thank you for your "prescription". I found the lower filter value but not the upper filter... But it works anyway: my drive is alive again!

Hello.

When you go to Start >> Computer, do you see the icon of your burner?

If so, go to Start >> right-click on Computer (or "This PC" for Vista) >> Manage >> Device Manager.

Click on the small + sign in front of "CD/DVD-ROM drives." Is there a yellow exclamation mark in front of it or not?

The brand of the PC?

Hi.

What do you mean you no longer have a reader?

Can you be more specific, please?

So yes, I see the icon of my burner.
And no, there is no yellow exclamation point in front of the CD/DVD-ROM drive.
For additional information, in the device manager, the drive is enabled, even when restarting my PC in read-only mode, the drive does not work.
Thank you for your response...

Ok.

Still in the device manager, click on the little + in front of "ATA/ATAPI IDE controller." And tell me what you see.

Have you created your recovery DVDs?

Excuse me blondin777, but I'm not on my PC right now, so I won't be able to perform the procedure you're asking for. And no, I didn't create a restoration DVD. Is that a problem?!

It's not a big deal, but it takes away our ability to test your burner at PC startup.

Too bad, we'll manage without it...

For information, during the startup I went to the blue startup screen (I don't remember what it's called) and I found an option to test the drives and I launched the test; for it, the response was no problems detected, so I don't quite understand.

You must be talking about the BIOS, I suppose, but it seems to me that you can't test a burner. A hard drive, yes, but a burner, I would be surprised, or else you are not talking about the BIOS.

It might be that I tested the hard drive and not the CD/DVD drive; my mistake, as I am still figuring things out in the computer field. And yes, I am indeed talking about the BIOS. Anyway, I saw online that I am not the only one having errors with this drive, but the drivers I downloaded to fix the errors didn’t work. I was also told that I could uninstall the drive and that it might work again after rebooting, but I don't have much faith in this method since I don't have any CD to reinstall the driver in case of an error... Good or bad idea?!

Good idea. That's the trick I wanted to suggest to you post<3>. And don't worry, you don't need a driver to make it work.

Thank you blondin777 for your answers. So you can assure me that I can uninstall it and then restart my PC, I won't need any drivers, and with a bit of luck, my drive might work again?!

Hi,
I own a Compaq (Vista) computer equipped with the same drive and I’ve also been having a problem for a few days; the message is as follows: Windows cannot start this device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or corrupted. (code 19). I can’t find the icon in "My Computer", and I’ve also tried troubleshooting by updating the device, with no results; however, I’ve created my recovery DVDs so I will try to test the drive.
See you soon for more information.

Hello,
This morning I restarted the computer with the "Boot Hardware Diagnostic" CD. It ran a whole series of tests that revealed no functioning anomalies; I just restarted the computer and, as if by magic, my drive is working again and the icon appears again in "Computer." However, I also have a functioning issue with the "Ahead InCD" file, the message says: the InCD file has stopped working, I no longer had this file in "All Programs" and since the drive is working again, I reinstalled "NERO5 version V5.5.10.54" which includes the "InCD" file version V4.0.5.6; I have the file back in all programs; however, it continues to indicate that the file has stopped working. I will try updating Nero up to version 8 to see if the problem persists. I have no explanation for all these phenomena, but I have the feeling that under "Windows VISTA" we are not done with our surprises and "troubles"… I will keep you updated on the progress…

I believe that only versions starting from version 7 are compatible with Vista...

To be confirmed...

Hello my friend
I have a problem with my Compaq 8710p
the issue is that I can't burn properly
let me explain: I've managed to burn a few times with it and now I can't anymore! when I select to burn it doesn't respond at all
the last time I downloaded a movie in ISO and by miracle I managed to burn it without any issues the first time
in my opinion it's a configuration problem but I don't know how to fix it
I also did the update but it doesn't solve the problem!
please if there is a solution
thank you

I had the same problem initially and by deleting the lowerfilter file it worked. I didn't try to understand, the result satisfies me!

Thank you blondin777, you honor your signature: "knowledge is wealth only when it is shared"

After several manipulations on the computer and on the drive, the final solution was to replace the TSSTCORP TS-H653L drive. The problem seems to come from the drive, a lens issue...
Thanks to everyone...

Hello, I have the same problem as birdy622, but my computer won't delete the Lowerfilters and Upperfilters files. What should I do? Thank you.

hi romrom7

if you have EXACTLY the same problem you can automatically remove the upperfilters and lowerfilters upon restarting your PC like this: save this file to your desktop: http://docxp.mvps.org/b1n/DisparitionCD.inf then right-click on it and click install and restart your PC as is.

this avoids registry manipulations and it works even for Vista.
