Hello,
Here’s my explanation: I installed Windows XP on VirtualBox (my machine is a Windows Vista), and I wanted to install a game on Windows XP because my game doesn’t work on Vista. I was able to install it by setting my DVD drive as a shared folder. The installation went very well, but as with most games, when you want to play, you need to insert the CD into the drive, but since I set my drive as a shared folder, the game does not detect it!
I’ve read in several forums that to set up the DVD drive in VirtualBox, I need to go to Configuration and then to “CD/DVD-ROM,” but the problem is that I don’t have that tab!
I have VirtualBox version 4.1.8.
Awaiting responses,
Sincerely, Nico@2ab
Configuration: Windows Vista / Safari 535.7

Hello
To consider it as a DVD player, the procedure is described just above!
And to consider it as a shared folder in "Settings", go to "Shared Folders", click on the folder icon called "Add a shared folder", and then specify the path to your DVD player.
Best regards, Nico@2ab

If you are still looking for it, in the top bar => "Devices" => "CD/DVD Devices" => "Host Drive 'HL-DT-ST DVDRW GS31N" I think what comes after host drive may change.

Hello,
Thank you for the response.
It's actually finding the path of my reader on my Mac that is causing me trouble. I don't know where it is located.
Best regards

in Oracle VM VirtualBox version 4.3.12, you need to
- select the virtual machine
- menu "Configuration"
- tab "Storage"
- at the bottom of the "Storage Tree" frame, click on the blue icon with a green plus "Add new device"
-> choose "Add CD/DVD Drive"
-> select "Leave empty"
- then select the created drive
- and in the "Attributes" table displayed to its right, click on the CD icon and select "Host Drive" (regardless of the letter following these words). For my part, it automatically selected in the "Attributes" table, from the dropdown list "CD/DVD Drive" the option "Primary IDE Slave" /
Check the box "Direct Mode".
- Click OK.
Test by starting the machine and checking from Windows Explorer that the drive is accessible.
Thankfully, after 2 hours of searching, I stumbled upon your very, very useful message.
Big thanks.
