Resolution too large for the screen

Solved

Hello,

I changed my screen resolution above the limit that my screen could support. Problem: the screen doesn't display anything (after logging in; otherwise, I can display the BIOS, etc. but nothing else). So how can I change the resolution without logging in?
Can we change the resolution by going into the BIOS or something?
I'm not very tech-savvy, so it would be nice to respond without using too many complicated words :S

Thanks in advance. I'm looking forward to your help.

P.S: I'm on Vista.
Configuration: Windows Vista Firefox 2.0.0.8

Ok, we’ll do it blindfolded,
1)
boot in safe mode, we’re going to disable the administrator account that I told you to create, go back like before: in the search module of the start menu, type cmd, then right-click on the cmd program that appears and run as administrator. Once that’s done, in the black window, type this: net user administrator /active:no now you only have one account left

2)
boot in normal mode, if when everything was fine you reached the screen with the usernames or you went directly into your account? If you reached the screen with the usernames, just press enter (if you had a password, you need to type it first) advice: turn on the sound, so you’ll see if you enter your session or not. Once in your session:

then, simultaneously press: [windows]+R on your keyboard, type: desk.cpl and press enter->press the tab key twice and you find yourself here: http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/6099/imagesanstitrejd2.png so press the left arrow multiple times, you can press many times to reach the base resolution of 800x600 once that’s done: press the tab key four times and press enter. If your screen comes back, quickly confirm the message with the 15 seconds countdown to confirm your resolution.

I tried this method, it works perfectly. The only thing to be careful about is to have exactly the same operating system. The problem I had was that the person who formatted the PC, when installing the operating system, set it to his screen resolution, and when I got home, my screen (you know, those big babies that take up half the desk space) showed a black screen. Since I also installed this operating system on my laptop, I was able to replicate the exact same actions to change the resolution.
And it feels good when you see the screen appear, you say wow, I’m so clever.

Luckily, I am blind. I can't proofread. (quote from Jean-Edern Hallier)

Do you know how to adapt your method to Windows 7? I have the same problem.
