Hello/Good evening!

While transferring files to a hard drive (which is a storage hard drive), my hard drive started making a strange clicking noise, and then another time when I tried to edit an image with Photoshop, the file got corrupted, preventing me from opening the modified image saved on that hard drive again.

Currently, it has found several files with Error reading disk c0000483 while running Scandisk (noting that it also made that strange clicking noise when finding errors).

This hard drive is a Western Digital Ultrastar DC HA210 2 TB (1W10002), which has always worked well until now, but has always had the particularity of making a noise when I turn off the PC (a low, faint grinding noise that other hard drives do not make).

I have taken the initiative to copy all the files from it to another hard drive.

I wanted to know if this could be due to the hard drive starting to fail or if I should just change its position on the SATA port to test it?

Thank you in advance for your help.

    Good evening,

The strange clicking of your hard drive could indicate the onset of failure, especially if it is accompanied by read errors.

It is recommended to check the status of the drive using diagnostic tools like CrystalDiskInfo and to back up your data to another medium if you haven't already done so.

Well, after the scandisk finished, I haven't heard any more clicking sounds.

On the other hand, it's strange, I have older hard drives and they still work, considering they are used just as much, if not more, than this hard drive that made that strange noise, which is only 3 years old. Strange...

I hope it's not the air conditioning at my place that, when it runs, causes a different noise in the power supply's fan (I mentioned this to the person who installed the air conditioning, who told me it wasn't a problem in the short term, but what about the long term?).

Well, I still have a while left on scandisk (an hour), but here’s what CrystalDiskInfo indicates via this image.

However, I find the temperature a bit higher than the other hard drives (which vary between 35 degrees and 40)

Well, since I ran Scandisk, the hard drive no longer makes strange noises. I still took the initiative to replace this hard drive just in case the noises come back.

    Thanks anyway for the help.
