Good evening,

I have an old Dell Precision T3400 workstation.

It currently has an Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 on socket 775. I would like to replace it with the fastest possible processor. I was thinking of either going for a Core 2 Quad (like the Q9650) or a Xeon X3 series (on socket 775 and not 771).

I have done some research and some say that it is possible to install an Intel Xeon on 775 on this PC and others say the opposite. I would like to specify that I have updated the BIOS to the latest available version (A14) and that the chipset is an Intel X38.

If any of you could enlighten me to refine my research...

Thank you in advance

Have a good evening.

    Good evening,

I asked chatGPT, but yes, it seems to be compatible.

We especially need to see how much it costs, knowing that a better cooler will be required; for me, it's wasted money, better to buy a Chinese miniPC for around a hundred euros, more powerful, recent, and supporting Windows 11.

    Hello

I have inquired and some say that it's possible to install an Intel Xeon on 775 in this PC and others say the opposite.

In fact, it's impossible to be affirmative without having tested it; Dell motherboards lack traceability, we would need to know the exact revision of the chipset, as well as for the processor. And when the processor operates on a board not intended for it, it is often not recognized for what it really is.

Anyway, I agree with the advice that winux gave you.
