Randomly Disconnecting Graphics Card

Hello, I apologize in advance for the description of my problem which will probably be shaky as I don't know much about it :/ ...

I have a "MSI Radeon RX 570 Armor 8GB OC" graphics card.

Randomly, when I'm playing a game, both of my screens turn off completely (the indicators at the bottom of my screens turn orange like when I turn the PC off). Even without an image, I continue to hear sound from my headset (videos, games, or my friends' voices on Discord), the RGB of my keyboard and mouse stay lit, so I assume they're still working, but no matter how long I wait, nothing happens on my screens.

So I have to turn off the PC with the power button and when I turn it back on only one screen lights up and I can't launch AMD Adrenaline (the software that manages my GPU) as I'm told the driver version is incompatible with my hardware. I took a look in the device manager and my card is recognized but "disabled".

When I reactivate it, everything comes back to normal before it "crashes" again a few hours later.

I used DDU to remove all the drivers before reinstalling them properly but the problem persists.

If you have any ideas, thanks in advance, hoping this isn't a sign of the end of my GPU's life because I clearly don't have the budget to change it...

If you need more info (configuration, driver version, etc.) feel free to ask, I'm available.

Sincerely, Xav.

Hello, I am the author of the post mentioned above, and I am currently experiencing the exact same problem. After some thought, I would like to add a few points. Firstly, I have encountered this issue before, but being less competent, I simply waited for it to resolve itself (which happened about a year or two ago, and it fixed itself without me doing anything, but it took several months). We have to admit that my problem and that of @XDA7 StatutMembre are occurring at the same time. This may seem illogical, but could it be related to one of the recent Windows updates? I have the impression that this has started happening since then.

hi,

you should check the Windows update history for the dates when the issues started and see if uninstalling those helps

maybe reinstalling Windows could also solve the problem

Hello, thank you in advance for your help!

However, I've already tried that and unfortunately it didn't fix my issue.

In order, I've:

-Checked for updates,

-Uninstalled the most recent update using the backup function in Windows Update settings,

-Reinstalled Windows 11 from scratch (with hard drive formatting)

I even thought it might be due to the Radeon drivers on Windows 11, so I went back to Windows 10 to try the latest drivers available for W10 on the AMD website, and that didn't help either.

Hello

Install UserDiag - Home

Run a long diagnostic and post the link to the report in the discussion.

It seems that the driver version is missing from the test you had me do, I am attaching a screenshot of the software indicating the version and the date of the driver

Should I run the thing directly or do I need to go through DDU to remove everything first?

Directly, without anything taken away, and especially never with ddu.....

Very well, I just did it and for now I have the display on my two screens. However, the software is offering me a new driver update; should I do it or should I not touch anything?

In any case, thank you so much for your time and patience; I will reach out to you again if the problem comes back soon.

Best regards.

You shouldn't do any further updates if it's working like this (in my opinion, the newer versions don't work with a 570 that is starting to age).

Hello again, sorry to bother you again but the problem has come back twice in two days... The same, I’m on my game (Dead By Daylight which is not a demanding game and my PC usually runs it fine) and suddenly bam both screens go black and I have to restart the PC manually.

When I restart, only my main screen turns on, and when I try to open Radeon I get this error message:

And when I try to reinstall the version of Radeon you gave me I get this message:

When I go to the device manager my graphics card is disabled and I have to re-enable it manually to get my dual screen back (until the next crash) :/

I don't know what to do anymore...

Hello,

do you have the problem if you only have one screen connected?

@flo88 StatutContributeur why not ddu?

not useful for an update, but for an earlier version it's better to uninstall everything first.

apparently it could be due to the power supply not keeping up properly and as a result the card deactivates itself. you could try undervolting the gpu (amd software > performance > settings > customize (instead of default) I think just reducing the consumption limit could be enough)

and it could also be the gpu that is defective

DDU is a tool from another era that wrecks the registry.

I also think it's possible that the graphics card is starting to wear out.

Hello, thanks for your response.

I haven't tried with just one screen connected, so I can't tell you.

All I know is that I've had my PC for 5 years and I've never had this issue even when playing much more demanding games (GTA or Warzone), so I don't really see why everything is falling apart for something as standard as DBD...

I did a load test directly with AMD Software (90 seconds) and I didn't exceed 120W, my power supply is a 500W

Following the steps you gave me, it suggests reducing energy consumption and I need to decrease/increase a %, should I put -5%?

Thanks

you can set it to -5 or -10%

it's not a question of power but having the right demand at the right time, consumption is not constant, it varies, if the power supply does not respond correctly to the demand from the graphics card it can cause problems. after all, your power supply is of good quality so it might not be that.

I once had a computer where you pressed the power button and it wouldn't start, sometimes it would, sometimes it would take 15 minutes after pressing the button (without pressing again in between), the power supply was the problem

a power supply can also cause BSODs for example.

the problem if it's the power supply or the graphics card is that you need to change one or the other to find out, or test one or the other on another PC

I tried with -10% and I had the issue instantly, I didn't even have time to close Radeon before I lost the image. And when I crash, I hear the same sound as when you remove a USB key, the little "tudum." I restarted the computer and as usual, my card is disabled in the device manager; if I reactivate it, I get a little warning panel ⚠️ and it says that Windows failed to find the drivers for this component, and if I disable it myself to reactivate it again, everything comes back to normal, I have dual display and I can launch Radeon without getting the error message.

Unfortunately, I don't have another PC to perform the test.

Hello, I have exactly the same problem. Randomly, even when I'm not on a game, my two screens turn off. When I force restart my PC, only 1 out of 2 screens turns on, and when I go to the device manager, the graphics card disables itself automatically, so I have to reactivate it. I've changed the motherboard, processor, power supply, and RAM, but nothing works.

it's either a driver issue, a Windows issue, or a faulty graphics card.

if you've already reinstalled Windows and considering what you've done, it's more likely that the graphics card is faulty, try to check with the warranty if you have one.
