Hello,
How to copy a table of contents from one Word document to another and replace the fields with their values (that is to say, the page numbers). I tried:
CTRL+A and CTRL+SHIFT+F9;
CTRL+A and FN+F9.
but it doesn’t work.
It gives me Error! Bookmark not defined, as soon as I want to print or convert to PDF.
Thank you!

Good evening
Yes, it's technically feasible. You have two solutions:
1. You copy the table, and in the new document, you paste while choosing "Use destination theme."
2. You insert a new table in your original document, select it and press Ctrl+Shift+F9. You copy and paste it into the new document. Then you can delete this second table of contents.
In reality, the "real solution" is the one Brucine gave you, which is to create a PDF with just the table.
On the other hand, what you did scares me, namely:
CTRL+A and CTRL+SHIFT+F9
CTRL+A selects everything and CTRL+SHIFT+F9 replaces all fields with their values...
If you haven't undone it, that's a big mistake... because you no longer have fields (page numbers, captions, table of contents, illustrations, etc.).
You really need to avoid using shortcuts when you don't know them well; it can lead to nasty surprises...

Hello,
I don't understand: two different documents will have a different table of contents that will indeed refer to different bookmarks unless, of course, the names and hierarchy of titles are identical between these two documents, with only the content being different, but then, we copy the first document into a blank document and then modify the content.
Hello.
It's a very bad idea to copy a table of contents from one document to another!
Each document must have its own table of contents that automatically reads the titles and subtitles.

Hello, I know this and I know how to create a table of contents very well, but I need to copy it. My document is 800 pages long and I only want to send the table of contents as a PDF. My question is how to copy a part of a document while replacing the fields with their value (so unbinding). Thank you.
I would also like to have it in WORD (KEEPING THE STYLES) so that I can modify certain elements, knowing that the links will be broken with the original document, in other words, replace the links with their value.
But hey, I understand that this may not be possible or that you don't have the answer. Thank you nonetheless!
You start by making us understand that the Word copy is only intended as a preliminary step for a PDF print, then you also want to keep the Word copy: if the request were clear, it might avoid any mood swings, at least yours.
You haven't tried CTRL+F11 yet to lock the fields on a copy of the original document, just in case, but in my opinion, we will always run into the same problem: in the new document created, there is an error because the bookmarks no longer exist.
Probably the same remark applies if we play with the advanced Word options for updating fields (but which can only be blocked during printing), or what we need to copy from one document to another.
In any case, we won't be able to copy via special paste "unformatted text" without losing the styles that would need to be redone.

Two other makeshift solutions.
On a copy of the original document, delete each pagination bookmark and manually replace it with the appropriate number, but if there are a lot of them, it will take a long time.
Or apply the Microsoft Print to PDF solution I suggested and reopen this PDF in Word by saving it as docx; since we start from an image, we won't have the fields, but we will have the numbers.
Thank you, Marina,
No worries, I know what CTRL+A and CTRL+SHIFT+F9 do. Thanks nonetheless for your warnings.
I’m taking the time to respond to give updates and the solution to my question in case it helps others. It was a keyboard issue.
CTRL+SHIFT+F9 to replace the fields with their values didn’t work with my external keyboard, but it did work with my laptop's keyboard.
Also, to copy the table of contents from the original document into the new document while keeping the styles from the original document (my table of contents has 10 pages and 5 styles, which can be time-consuming to redo), you need to paste by selecting "keep source formatting."
There you go, and thanks again!
PS Finally, using Microsoft Print to PDF is fine, except it can be useful to know that the images will be of poor quality. I'm on the 5th edition of an 800-page book put together in Word and converted to PDF.
