Suddenly Thunderbird won't send anymore

Hello,

All of a sudden, while it was still working two hours ago and I haven't changed anything, Thunderbird refuses to send my messages: "An error occurred while sending the email. The email server responded: 7Yr0s2hRX8l32 Invalid Sender, please use your Orange address. Invalid Sender. OFR203_406 [406]. Please check that your email address in the account settings is correct and try again."

I continue to receive everything but I can't send anything, so

What should I do?

Thank you!

Hello,

Check this link to see if you can fix Thunderbird.

Hello,

The problem is generally not related to the mail software but to the fact that we are trying to send emails to an ISP from addresses coming from another one (for example, if we are subscribed to Orange using an SFR address).

See, for example, here by modifying the SMTP accordingly (in my example using the one from SFR), it doesn't always work.

Thank you very much.

However, I spent over 5 hours this morning and my head is in a jumble... But after trying all possible combinations, I still can't send messages. Now I'm being asked for my password but it's not recognized. I'm losing hope! I don't understand why the problem occurred all of a sudden! I had been working on my computer for several hours while managing emails at the same time. It was working fine and then all of a sudden it stopped working. I have another account (personal) on Thunderbird that is still functioning. I followed the instructions step by step in the link but still nothing on the account that receives my work email. What should I do?

If it's like I believe, the SMTP is to blame; sometimes it doesn't work at all, especially with Orange.

If for an account with an SFR address I use my default Orange SMTP, I will get kicked out by Orange (the address doesn’t belong to them), and if I set the SFR SMTP, I still get kicked out for some obscure reason, maybe because I'm not an SFR customer.

In this scenario, which I've also experienced while traveling (for example, I have an SFR address and I connect to Wi-Fi at someone's home using their Bouygues Box), it's the same punishment; the only workarounds are using a generic Webmail (like Gmail) or even that of your ISP (like SFR) since it's then Internet, and there’s no more SMTP protocol.

I’m sorry. I don’t understand. Now I’m receiving nothing and I can’t send anything. I wanted to create a new account (to hell with being stingy!) but I find myself with something on libera.chat (?) that I can’t control. I think I’m going to give up on Thunderbird altogether. Way too temperamental!

And what doesn't really answer the question: the new account you created, does it correspond to an email address from your ISP, ending with sfr if it's SFR, and so on?

(sorry, I'm in a very busy work period so I'll get back to the conversation when I can...)

I thought I created an account on Thunderbird and I saw something ending with libera.chat but I can't find that account.

Moreover, I'm with Orange. I have two accounts on Thunderbird with two different addresses and only one (the personal account) has an ***@***. The other is professional, with an extension specific to my employer's organization. That's the one causing me problems. I don't understand anything about computers, so it's probably something very simple that I should do but I don't know what.

We always come back to the same question.

If Thunderbird accepts sending emails from your Orange address, which is your provider, it is only the address or addresses from other ISPs that are at issue; in this context, we can receive but not send.

The only solution is to change the SMTP of Orange for these accounts to that of the corresponding ISP for that address, for example, Free if it's a Free address; this information can easily be found by searching the Web (always, for example, "SMTP Free").

For a professional address where the suffix may not necessarily indicate the affected provider, check this information on one of the work PCs or ask your employer.

As I illustrated earlier, especially from Orange, it may not be enough as Orange could refuse to route traffic from addresses that are not theirs; in that case, there is no other solution than to use a webmail service that would accept an address that is not theirs, since the SMTP is no longer involved from the PC.

Hello

You can add or remove an existing account in Thunderbird, but you can't create one.

Thunderbird is very reliable as software, I've never had any issues.

Setting up the servers is a bit complicated because various options can work, even the less secure ones.

No one can help you with a professional address except the network administrator.

Sorry, I’m completing. The extension of the personal address is orange

Thank you both. I'm not using the right terms: I wanted to add an account, not create one...

The solution is surely, indeed, Brucine, to "change the SMTP from Orange for these accounts to that of the ISP corresponding to this address." My question now is: where do I make this change? Is it in "settings" then "outgoing server"? Or is it the next screen by clicking on "modify SMTP server" to the right of "outgoing server"?

Thanks again!

Hello,

Go to Tools > Account Settings

1) At the bottom of the left column, click on Outgoing SMTP Server.

Make sure that the server of the relevant account's host appears in the list.

If it isn't there, click on Add.

  • In "Description", enter the name of the host; it doesn't matter.
  • The "Server Name" is of the type smtp.****.***; for example, smtp.free.fr
  • You indicate the port number: usually 465 or 587
  • You choose the connection security.
  • The next line normally should not be modified.
  • The username is the full email address.
  • You confirm with OK.

 2) You return to the account settings and click on the line with the address.

Scroll down to the bottom of the central page and select the SMTP server from the list.
