Hello, I wanted to turn my desktop computer back on and I came across a black page with text in English. I don't know what it means, but I can't access the computer anymore. I'll send you an image I took of my screen and you can tell me what's going on. Thank you all.

It's talking to me about the battery.

Hello,

While waiting for your screenshot, it is likely the message displayed when Windows fails to load, the word "battery" indicating that the BIOS battery, which maintains the PC's settings, is depleted and needs to be replaced.

You can still temporarily start up by pressing the function key indicated in the message, but you'll need to do this with every restart.

This is a round, flat battery of type CR 2032, which is easy to find in supermarkets or specialty stores. It is expected to last about ten years.

Oh thank you, that's what I thought I understood, it's a small flat battery.

I'll go get one shortly, but I can't restart it; they say to press F1 and it doesn't work. But well, that's very kind of you. I'll change the battery first and we'll see. I'll send you a message if it doesn't work because I have a wireless keyboard; could that be what's causing the mess? Thanks.

It is indeed F1 that exits the BIOS (the boot sequence preceding the loading of Windows). This cannot work with a wireless keyboard since it is not recognized and operational until after Windows has loaded.

You would need a PS2 keyboard, a connector format that predates the current USB standard, which also only works after the Windows session has started.

If you do not have any other issues (damaged hard drive, bad disk sectors, defective memory bank, etc.), a new battery should allow you to regain normal functioning.

Good evening, now the battery has been changed, I was lucky to find one at home while searching through my drawers. However, to find a PS2 keyboard with a port older than the current one, I will have to ask on Facebook if someone can help me out.

In any case, thank you very much, have a good evening, I will let you know when it's fixed.

You do not need a PS2 keyboard because the startup should at least happen on the BIOS interface. Moreover, recent PCs no longer have them.

You can use a wired USB keyboard, which will at least allow you to set the date and time.

However, you must make sure that the battery has not run out if it has been stored for a long time.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Yes, I understand now what a FEDER keyboard is; you explained it well because I couldn't remember. However, regarding the battery, I'm not sure if it works because I bought that 8-pack of batteries at a discount store.

As for the keyboard, I'll manage to find one because I'm currently in the BIOS, and I need to press F1, but it's not working. Also, I don't know how to post a photo of the image on my computer screen on this site; if you could explain that to me, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you very much.

In principle, the F1 key is accompanied by a text that tells you what it does, but if you haven't plugged in a wired keyboard, it won't allow you to start or make changes in the BIOS (at least the date and time) before booting.

For the photo, you need to connect to CCM using a smartphone (or another PC) and insert the photo you took into the message by clicking on the mountain chain icon above the writing area.

Good evening,

As the normal functioning of your computer has been restored (offline), I advise you to open a new topic with a clear title (not "I have problems" but rather "no internet connection").

However, for an intervener (I will probably leave my place to a "communications" specialist) to diagnose the problem(s), you should indicate the computer's reference, the version of Windows, and the exact model of the box.

Remote troubleshooting is not divination, and we cannot make assumptions without specific information, particularly the complete error message when you try to connect.

Your network card may be faulty, its driver may be damaged, or perhaps the box needs to be restarted.

Furthermore, I assume you are connected via an ethernet cable, which may need to be changed.

In other words, there is no push-button solution, but a search by trial and error, knowing that we do not know if you have reset the settings that establish the connection with the box (notably in the communications module of Windows; the procedure will probably be clarified once you provide the requested information).

Note: you mention a proxy, which is a connection procedure for corporate networks, and it would also require a screenshot sent from your phone or smartphone as suggested in message #8.

In short, you still have work to do. I will try to follow from a distance without actually intervening.

You can refer to this message by including the link in your next post.
