Mobile Data and MMS

Hello,
Just a confirmation... or not.
I was with Sosh since 2015. For various reasons, I have been with Free for a few days.
With Sosh, I sent my MMS "like that," without enabling 4G. And it worked fine.
I have learned since being with Free that this is not possible.
Well, I've enabled mobile data on my phone. But while I could have been mistaken about one or a few sends, surely not for 8 years...
I wondered if the 4G turned "on" just for the time it took to send, and everything reverted back to no 4G after the send.
However, from my home, MMS takes a bit longer to send. Is it indoor speed?
Additionally, a message appears when I want to send a photo: "activate or deactivate..." at the bottom of the messages screen. I don't understand.
Thank you for your insights.

No, there was a longer message. But since then, I just tried to send a photo and I read (as usual): "Converting to MMS". Even though my 4G is working.
Well, I think I'm going to leave that part alone since it's working.
Thanks anyway for showing interest.
Thank you, brucine.
So, I think I wasn't mistaken in seeing nothing at the top of the screen with Sosh when I was sending photos...
For Free, with mobile data activated, it's more tedious. That's what surprised me at first.
I went to check the link; thank you. When I talked to a Samsung advisor, because Free couldn't answer me (...), I didn't have as many settings. There, perhaps wrongly, I’m a bit hesitant to commit to it. In your opinion, is there not too much risk?
As mentioned, the risk, depending on the type of plan and therefore the operator, is that these MMS may be deducted from the Data plan or even incur additional charges (passive consumption by applications) if mobile data is permanently enabled.
Alternatively, if there is no Data plan at all, it may not work.
The question is somewhat theoretical even with a low Data plan (I have only 5 GB for €4.99 and I don't always use 1 GB) because it matters little unless one spends their life sending MMS, especially outdoors (at home, we often have a Box and Wifi), and it’s far from being a significant expense compared to other data uses.
In roaming data, it is noted: "Using mobile data while roaming may incur additional charges." What gives?
Note that I have a plan of 140 GB for mobile data. I'm good.
Well, I went there and in the end I only changed free to free.re
For the rest, I had all these settings.
So what?
Should I maybe do a test?
Without trying, you will know nothing, but you are fighting against windmills.
Your MMS won't dent your 140 GB.
Any application that is allowed to connect to the Internet, either globally (mobile data activated) or individually (permission settings for each application), consumes mobile data in the background even when you're doing nothing, especially when it doesn't go through Wi-Fi, for example, at home.
The consumption in question can be relatively significant (although on 140 GB...) and can only be reduced by disabling mobile data or individual permissions.
I tried something, but... it made the mobile data icon disappear at the top of the screen, even though it is enabled in the shortcuts. I'm going to set it back to how it was before...
No, no, as I let you assume, I absolutely wasn't thinking about data consumption. I just wanted my messages (SMS or MMS) to be sent and for me to be able to receive others, just like before. So my problem isn't really a problem.
It became one as soon as I activated "data roaming".
I set everything back "like before". Thank you for taking an interest in it.
Best regards
Hello,
You'd better ask yourself fewer questions and not change the smartphone settings. They are automatically adjusted based on the SIM card that is inserted. There's nothing to tweak.
For MMS, mobile data must be enabled. I don’t see the point in disabling it with a quota of 140 Go. If you’re not doing heavy downloads, you won’t exceed 10 Go. Generally, I’m around 5 Go.
You can always check your usage by going to
Settings > Connections > Data Usage.
As for roaming, you’re not affected on a daily basis. Roaming is when you change operators, for example if you travel outside the borders. In that case, you should check on the Free website what you can do. For the countries in Europe, there are no issues.
What is well conceived is clearly expressed,
And the words to say it come easily.

Absolutely agree with you, Pierr10.
I posted on CCM because I had a problem regarding my messages. I’ll shorten it by saying again that I reset all the settings I had, but there are still some variations:
Receiving with or without notification sound; receiving from the correspondent, but I haven't received their reply. And I did all this at home with family members. In short, not very stable...
Thank you
Yes, of course, in "Resolved".
Just a word. I had much fewer problems of this kind with Sosh than with Free (of which I am also a Freebox subscriber). It may be due to my portability procedures. I remember that, "in my early days" with Sosh, I had already encountered some difficulties.
Thank you for everything.
Hello,
The subtlety is that a MMS cannot be sent unless it is at least initiated on a Data plan, even if it is immediately switched back to the phone plan.
This requires a specific APN which is different for each operator.
Check here if this one works for Free:
https://www.echosdunet.net/free/aide/configurer-mms
I don't know if it still works even in "resolved". I went to the link: I followed the suggested path... and everything got messed up. No more mobile data, etc.
I had to contact Samsung. So the link doesn't work for Free.
See the screenshots I posted here (messages <3> and <10>).
Normally, you shouldn't have to touch that! Especially if everything is working!
Yes, generally, I don't touch anything... especially if everything is working. But brucine wrote:

It's still somewhat of an invitation to try, isn't it? It's not a big deal. It works now, that's what matters.
Of course, I'm not blaming brucine, but the sentence was a bit ambiguous.
If everyone agrees, we can close this topic, especially since it is marked as "Resolved".
Thank you all.
