Hello,
I have both Word 2007 and Word 2019 installed on my computer for a long time (the 2019 version was installed via "One-click Start"). I noticed that it was still the 2007 version that was being used by default when I opened Word documents, so I made the necessary changes in "Choose a default app" by selecting the icon corresponding to Word 2019.
Since this change, the Word documents on my PC no longer display the Word icon (neither 2007 nor 2019). They show a basic white icon, which is a bit disconcerting (see image at the bottom of the message).
Is it possible to restore the Word 2019 icon on these files? If so, how?
Thank you

Note that although the Word icon does not appear on the documents, they open correctly in Word 2019 when I open them.
(Just to clarify, for Excel, the correct icon is displaying.)

Hello,

There is no healthy solution to install two versions of Office simultaneously on the same PC, as it causes conflicts with shared folders that are common and leads to more or less predictable bugs, today this one, tomorrow another.

Why do you want to keep Word 2007?

Hello,
I admit that when I installed 2019, I simply didn't think about uninstalling 2007 (which I don't necessarily need anymore).
If I uninstall 2007, do you think that will solve the problems, or is it better to uninstall everything (2007 and 2019) and reinstall 2019 only after uninstalling 2007?
Thank you

You just need to uninstall 2007, but uninstalling from the control panel still leaves some remnants behind.

Use the Office uninstall assistant if it supports 2007, I don't remember.
https://support.microsoft.com/fr-fr/office/d%C3%A9sinstaller-office-automatiquement-9ad57b43-fa12-859a-9cf0-b694637b3b05

Otherwise, do the job manually; after uninstallation, Office 2019 is referenced in the shared folders (Users and Programs) as Office 16, while 2007 is labeled Office 12.

The same goes for the registry (run regedit.exe), delete the Office 12 folders in the keys HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office and HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Office.

For once, we can do the job more intelligibly with CCleaner (select the only registry option) and remove everything related to Office 12 and any software components from version 2007.

That said, the correct path in the Word 2019 icon registry for docx to restore if needed, but I fear it might be a band-aid on a wooden leg on one hand because docx also opens with Word 2007 which probably has its Word.Document.n entry (check if we can find the corresponding one), on the other hand and especially because it's the tree that hides the forest of other malfunctions.

Hello,
Thank you for your responses, I uninstalled 2007 and deleted the keys, etc. but the icons still weren't working. So I uninstalled and reinstalled 2019, and everything seems normal now! Thank you for your help!
