Hello,

Recently, I purchased a Blue Yeti microphone on leboncoin and I noticed that when I plugged in my mic, the connector was loose and I have to position my charger in a certain way for the mic to work.

Could you help me find a way to stabilize the charger or the connector?

Thank you in advance for your response

Hello,

Your request is not related to the IT field, but rather to DIY (without any pejorative nuance);

Just like with an electrical outlet, a garden hose, or any other adjustment issue, as you say, it involves immobilizing the male plug (the metallic part of which should be deformed) in the female socket of the computer.

The first idea that comes to mind is to use a wooden toothpick, pushed in the right place and then broken off flush. This might not last forever but can be repeated if necessary.

Unless the microphone cord is removable or you are attempting to disassemble the microphone for replacement or soldering, the solution I’m suggesting is a "quick fix" that I’ve already used for different cases. It involves not pulling on the microphone cord but poses no danger.

After that, one might consider a putty type like "Patafix" or a glue from a glue stick gun, but then we enter the realm of the late MacGyver.

That said, regarding second-hand equipment, which may have been used without caution, there might be a reader with a better solution.

That said, I might have asked you to clarify, as the title mentions a USB plug and the text refers to the charger, which I understand as being the mains power supply.

In that case, it’s necessary to determine whether the loose connection is in the mains power cord or at the output of the power block, which could eventually render it inoperable.

Hello again,
The issue concerns the USB port which, as you mentioned at the beginning, is indeed deformed.
I think I will first use a toothpick and see later if it works.
Thank you for your reply.

Hello,

It also happens that the USB port becomes unsoldered from the motherboard... this port is only slightly loose, but you can feel that it moves... It's the solder that becomes dry and the hole gets bigger with each somewhat "nervous" plug/unplug...

The remedy is to open the PC to resolder it, by a "good solderer."

Usually, there are several USB ports on a PC... and not all of them are unsoldered; it remains possible to install a USB hub to connect several accessories (avoid external drives); that would also be a solution...

That's something to ponder...

Hello Jeannnets,

Very good suggestions as well. I avoided the hypothesis of the internal USB port, which as you describe, requires a minimum of practice.

Your suggestion of a hub also makes me think of a USB extension in addition to the micro cord, "secured" by the famous toothpick (or hot glue), which would allow me to plug/unplug the whole thing without too much caution.
