Unstable Ping with Powerline Adapters
HieroLeRobot -
Hello,
I just acquired a kit of 3 powerline adapters (CPLs) 1000 Mbps from the brand STRONG on Amazon, as well as a set of 600 Mbps Ethernet cables to upgrade my powerline network at my parents' house, since I will soon be receiving my desktop PC, which unfortunately won't be equipped with a Wi-Fi card, which might actually be a mistake on my part…
I installed the mentioned powerline adapters, one from my wall socket to the box, and the other two going from wall sockets to a PS5 located in another room and mine from a wall socket to my current PC.
However, on both the PS5 and my PC, I noticed with horror significant packet loss that is really disturbing during gameplay.
This is very frustrating because I thought by upgrading my network I wouldn't have any issues. For the PS5, I was previously using powerline adapters (which I still have) that are 10 years old and it caused no packet loss.
For this device, I could easily revert to the old ones, but for my PC, which isn't equipped with a Wi-Fi card, it's much more complicated…
I would therefore like you to please help me find a solution to this! I'm willing to try anything to make them work properly, and in the worst case, return them if they really don't function correctly.
Some clarifications: - My PC has a 3-year warranty, which is why I don't want to add too many components.
- The powerline adapters are these ones: https://www.amazon.fr/dp/B0BHWMDKMM/ref=redir_mobile_desktop/259-6212244-4351150?_encoding=UTF8&%3Bref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title&psc=1
- Each powerline adapter is plugged into a wall socket and nothing is connected to it because I have the ability to do so but I don't.
- The first SpeedTests showed a significant increase in my speed, in terms of downloads too, on Steam I go from 2 MB/s download to 10 MB/s, but again like the ping, it's not stable.
- I live at my parents' house, and unfortunately, running an Ethernet cable from the box to my PC is impossible.
I hope with all this, you will be able to help me!
Thank you in advance for your responses!

Hello,
- "noticing with horror large packet losses": how do you measure this?
- how does it behave when only connecting 2 powerline adapters?
-
Hello,
I'm measuring this in-game for once, in fact when I play, specifically Valorant, I have a ping of 9ms with my old PC which has a Wi-Fi card.
However, since I installed the new powerline adapters on the old PC, my ping is now 25 ms (on a Parisian server by the way in my game yesterday) and I experience ping spikes that can go up to 80 ms and then drop back down to 25 ms. This happens several times during the match, even in the same round.
As for your question about the two powerline adapters, I'll test that as soon as I get home! And I'll respond to this comment again to let you know!
Hello!
Unfortunately, I couldn't test my ping in game, however I don't know why but my powerline adapters have increased the download speed by 40 times.
Before, I was downloading at 2/3 MB/s and last night (of course) I was able to reach 80 MB/s.
I will test the ping on Valorant this evening and I'll let you know again if I have any packet loss, normally there is an option in the settings to display it on the screen.

I’m sorry to repeat myself, but have you tried a Wi-Fi 6 repeater?... This solution is for Orange, I use those from SFR.
Difference between a repeater and powerline adapter... https://fr.devolo.ch/guide/repeteur-vs-cpl

It's an interesting solution, but since I don't have a Wi-Fi card, it's still complicated BUT doable if I buy a Wi-Fi card, but my fear of voiding the 3-year warranty on the PC worries me.
Moreover, being with Free, I don't know if they have a Wi-Fi repeater, but the problem of the Wi-Fi card not being present in the PC remains.
You can connect a computer to the Wi-Fi repeater via cable.
Powerline adapters communicate with each other over the electrical network.
Wi-Fi repeaters communicate with each other via Wi-Fi.
Devices such as the Deco PX50 communicate with each other by combining the electrical network and Wi-Fi.
So if I understand correctly, a Wi-Fi repeater can act like a Wi-Fi card?
If I don't have a Wi-Fi card, can I plug the repeater directly into my PC and the Wi-Fi repeater will receive the Wi-Fi and I will be on Ethernet since I just need to connect my PC with an Ethernet cable from the Wi-Fi repeater?Hello,
yes,
in that case we're talking more about a client mode access point, it can also be an access point from a mesh wifi system, which is much more effective than repeaters and often more than powerline modems with modern wifi6 products.

Hello,
For this device, I could very well switch back to the old ones, but for my PC, which is not equipped with a Wi-Fi card, it’s much more complicated…A PC without Wi-Fi, surprising!
Install the network card updates... Have you considered using repeaters instead of powerline adapters?

Hello,
Indeed haha, I configured my setup on the Agando-shop.fr website and I forgot to add the Wi-Fi card in the configuration, mistakenly thinking that the motherboard was already equipped…
But most of the PCs I've observed in the last few months before buying also didn't have one. Quite surprising..
It's true that I didn't think about the Wi-Fi Repeater which, to be honest, wasn't really on my mind since I don't have a Wi-Fi card, but I'm seriously considering it if I buy a Wi-Fi card, though my warranty is an issue because I wouldn't want it to be void :/
I also thought about the Wi-Fi dongle as a replacement but that wouldn't solve the CPL issue.
