Epson WF 2540 printer blocked

Todoricus -
 Todoricus -

Hello, could you help me, as after cleaning the heads with solvent for 48 hours, then 5 head cleanings, the print quality is still worse. Then I received a paper jam message, asking to open, then to close and stop and consult the manual... the messages remain unchanged. I cleared, washed, dried, and reassembled the foam pad, with no improvement. I tried turning off, pressing and holding the color and stop buttons (and other combinations), and turning it back on, with no improvement. I tried pushing a somewhat thick sheet through the output or input, then turning it back on, with no improvement or change in the messages. I tried turning it upside down, shaking, and vacuuming the inside, with no effect. What do you recommend?

Thank you for your experience and time.

Hello.....

If I'm not mistaken, you should have received a message before this printer got stuck..► What was that message?

Didn't you receive a message like ► An ink pad for the printer is near the end of its life........Contact...Epson?

No, it was by going on the forums that I saw it could be due to the cartridge... I received: jam, press ok, open then: close, stop, and look for the manual (that meant that, those are not the exact terms). Thank you very much for taking an interest in my problem.

Thank you for the feedback ....

In fact, I was thinking about the wasted ink counter that, once saturated, blocks the printer .....

If it's a paper jam, that's another matter ► See the manual starting from page 127

Thank you very much, I didn't know where to find this manual! Hats off, because it's long to read all these pages...

I need to mention that my printer, which is over 10 years old, for a few years now I haven't clicked on the printer software update for fear of a breakdown. I did it after my breakdown, with no result.

And for the past few months, this printer has indicated "paper jam" for no reason; all I had to do was open the printer, close it, hit OK, and it would start working again.

Is it possible that there are 1 or even 2 counters in Epson printers that render the product unusable after a certain number of pages? Is there a "chip resetter" for this, like those used to revive cartridges declared nearly empty? (While their weight shows that they are not, compared to a truly empty cartridge...)

Do you recommend that I buy another one?

Maybe I can reinstall; I've kept the installation CDs.

Thanks again for your expertise and selflessness.

Hello ...

If you are sure there is no paper jam, and the printer is clean inside (vacuum if possible ... or use a blower ...), there might be another cause for the blockage given the age of the printer, and this is what I thought from the start ... namely resetting the used ink counter to zero as indicated below

  1. Download and install Wic Reset ► Here ... it is supposed to be the free version with 1 trial only; otherwise, switch to the paid version for €10 or less ...
  2. Your printer is supported by this tool ► See the list

If there is still no change after resetting the counter to zero, you can possibly completely and cleanly uninstall the printer using Revo Uninstaller ► Here  (if you are not familiar with this tool ► read its manual at the link)

  1. Run Revo Uninstaller ► Uninstall the printer
  2. Restart the PC
  3. Reinstall the printer not from your CD if it's 10 years old since it's no longer up to date, but from the Epson website ► Here (Don't forget to select the correct operating system at the top right depending on whether it's Windows 7-8-10 or 11)

If your printer is 10 years old, it may be at the end of its life ... of course, this is subject to verification but not impossible!

Regarding printers, my personal choice is Brother because I have had Canon and Epson and had problems ... whereas I currently have 2 Brothers, one that is 8 years old and the other 3 years old ... and I have never had any issues ... even with the oldest one, using only branded cartridges and not generic ones

It may also be possible to reset this printer to factory settings using the buttons on its control panel ... check the user manual if possible ...

Best regards and looking forward to your feedback on the results!

Thank you immensely for all this detailed advice. I will get started on it, it will probably take some time, and I will keep you informed.

Have a great day!

Hello, after a week (my computer is having trouble, and I'm struggling), after visiting the Epson site and likely messing things up, I only managed to uninstall that printer. This makes getting it back up and running even more complicated. I didn't dare ask for your opinion on choosing a new printer, and you kindly gave me your unsolicited opinion in your second-to-last message. Indeed, 30 years ago I had a Brother printer where I could refill the translucent tanks with ink and a syringe.. Thank you again for your help! Have a great day.

Hello ... and thank you for your response!

If I understand correctly, this printer is out of order as it is still stuck after trying everything, including resetting the used ink counter to zero ......

If that's the case, personally, I have no other solutions to get it unstuck ... and if it's over 10 years old ... which is quite a bit, replacing it might be the right solution???

As for the replacement, it all depends on the budget you can allocate ► If you share a price range, I can possibly look into it and provide you with some options...

Regards ► See you+

Hello, thank you for your help! I'm thinking of a budget of around €100. A maximum of €150, and ideally being able to use generic or refurbished cartridges, as after a year their price exceeds that of the printer. Unless you advise against it. I don't have a particular brand in mind. Thanks again!

Do you want a color printer or a monochrome printer?

Color, WiFi (I can print from my Samsung phone running Android, my computer is temperamental), scan, photocopy.

Personal suggestion for a color printer - Wifi (Price range between €100 and €150)

Brother DCP-J1050DW

Brother DCP J1200W

HP Envy 6020e

HP OfficeJet Pro 6230

HP Envy Inspire 7220e

Epson Expression Premium XP-6100

Epson Expression Home XP-2105 Printer

Canon PIXMA TS7450

Canon PIXMA MG3650 4800 x 1200DPI

* As for me, I am pro Brother, I had 1 Canon and 1 Epson ► Trash after 2 and 3 years and no problems with a Brother color printer for 8 years and another laser for 3 years ... I have never bought generic cartridges in my life ... always brand new and despite that, the Canon and Epson did not withstand the "shock" ... and yet I am not a heavy user of my printers ....!

* Branded cartridges are much more expensive than generics, but they have the merit of not shortening the lifespan of printers (Caution with generics during warranty period...!)

* To conclude, my personal choice would be the Brother DCP J1050DW or the HP Envy 6020e (I have a friend who has one for over a year and is very happy ...)

Of course, some people may not share my opinion, and maybe wait a bit to receive other feedback ...

Cheers ► A+

I am tempted by the Brother DCP J1200 W printer, which will probably be my choice unless you advise otherwise. In any case, none will work with my Windows 7 Vista PC. But I have a laptop running Windows 10 and a smartphone.

Hello ....

Personally, I would have preferred the DCP J1050DW but it is not available on AMZ and does not seem to be available anywhere else either... without looking too hard ....

On the other hand, the DCP J1200W is also quite good and has good reviews from users on Amazon.

If I’m not mistaken, it should also be compatible with Windows 7 according to the Brother site.

I can't post the link because it doesn't work, but if you want to search, just type Brother DCPJ1200W, driver into Google and you’ll find it easily.

Cheers ► a+

Hello.

Personally, I recommend printers with tanks. Cartridges are a real financial drain.

Sure, they are a bit more expensive to buy, but the cost of ink makes the overall balance much more economical.

I opted for the Canon G6050, it is not without its flaws but what cartridge savings!

Hello SATS ► Do you know any printers with a reservoir for a budget of €100 to €150?

Cheers

I agree with you, but when you have a maximum budget of between 100 and 150€ for this purchase... you can't do otherwise!

Thank you all, especially jmarion3! It's good news that this Brother DCP 1200W can work under Windows 7...

In the past, I had opened a standard cartridge out of curiosity, then I punctured another one with an ink syringe, fitted with a green-tipped needle (0.8mm in diameter), which is possible by heating the tip and trying several times. It makes a mess, not conclusive, but I didn't have a "chip resetter" back then. Later, as generics became affordable, I didn't try to refill them. However, I managed to completely empty the cartridges with this chip resetter. And then it stopped working. For what reasons?

Furthermore, an expensive printer remains expensive if it doesn't last long enough...
