How to sync Orange messaging between Android and PC

Hello,
I installed the Orange app on my smartphone (Android 12). The two Orange accounts present on my PC (Windows 10) are also available in the Orange app on my smartphone. How can I ensure that a message deleted from the smartphone is also deleted on the PC (and vice versa)?
Thank you in advance for your help.

Hello,
Very vague question.
- You are talking about the Orange app on the smartphone. It is probably the Mail Orange app.
If you also use the Orange app on PC (https://messagerie.orange.fr/mail.html), there will automatically be a synchronization.
- You can also use email clients on PC and smartphone.
On the PC, you can use Thunderbird or Mail (application already installed on Windows). On the smartphone, you can use the Gmail app (probably already installed).
In these clients (on PC and smartphone), you will set up the Orange accounts.
If you want email synchronization, the receiving protocol must be strictly IMAP (not POP). This question is asked during the account setup.
What is well conceived is clearly stated,
And the words to say it come easily.

When I delete an Orange message on my smartphone, it does not delete on the PC (and vice versa).
I think I need to set both accounts to IMAP.
How should I do this specifically (step by step) without risking messing everything up?
Hello,
You still haven't said whether you're using Orange webmail or a message manager.
Assuming it's a message manager (both on the smartphone and on the PC), there is no solution to convert a POP account into an IMAP account: it must be recreated.
To avoid losing emails, it would be better to recreate it in parallel before deleting the POP account.
On the PC, create an IMAP account and move the messages from the POP account to the IMAP account. It's easy with Thunderbird.
Normally, on a smartphone, accounts are IMAP. POP is not offered, as it is not suitable for mobile devices that may be stolen or damaged.
Hello again,
I didn't fully understand all the nuances above... So I'll start over. I simply have two accounts with Orange, which is my ISP. (e.g. ***1@orange.fr and ***2@orange.fr). No Thunderbird, nothing else. I know it's, in your opinion, "the worst solution", but for now, that's what I have, like most of my correspondents. Friends have suggested I create a Gmail account (***3@gmail.com) to synchronize my emails between my smartphone and PC, and to transfer my @orange accounts there. So I currently have on my smartphone my two Orange accounts (***1@orange.fr and ***2@orange.fr) as well as a Gmail account (***@gmail.com which contains ***1@orange.fr.
The synchronization of the @gmail account smartphone/PC is okay. The synchronization of the @Orange accounts doesn't work (neither PC/smartphone nor smartphone/PC).
You might logically ask me: if ***3@gmail.com (which contains ***1@orange.com) works well, why not create a second Gmail account (***4@gmail.com) that would contain the second Orange account (***2@orange.fr) to solve the problem. This would indeed be the solution. It would then be up to me to delete my two @Orange accounts and only use my two @gmail accounts. (That said, I don't think I could delete my 2 Orange accounts and would have to at least keep one, as my subscription is linked to an Orange account (***1@orange.fr).
I haven't made the leap for two reasons, one of which is related to my ignorance of the relationship between Google/Gmail and Orange.
The first is that I do not want to multiply unnecessary accounts. That would make it 4: 2 with Orange and 2 with Google/Gmail.
The second is: what would happen in case of any future problems related to my @gmail mail.. Would I have to contact my ISP Orange and let them know that my email address used is ***3@gmail.com, since I would no longer be using ***1@orange.fr?
All of this isn't very clear in my head: I think I'm mixing up basic concepts that are clear for most of you...
I'm sorry for the length of my message, but I tried to be as clear as possible in my explanations...
Thank you for enlightening me and advising me on this point.
The Mail Orange app on a smartphone and Mail Orange on a PC work very well. I just tried it by deleting a message on my smartphone in the Mail Orange app. It's also deleted from the Orange mail site on my PC.
I did the same thing on my PC and refreshed my mailbox on my smartphone.
It's all good, I find my two emails in the trash.
Two simple solutions to the problem. Here's one to start with, and we can see about the other solution if this one isn't effective: on your smartphone, uninstall the Mail Orange app and then reinstall it. See how that goes.
For your information, my Mail Orange version on my smartphone is 3.34.0.0. What version do you have?
Hello,
Your problem is resolved, but I will try to help you understand a bit better.
One of the main issues you have is the relationship between Gmail and Orange. The entity responsible is actually Google, which uses the word Gmail to refer to different things. This causes confusion, and you are not the first to be affected.
Initially, when you have a smartphone, you use (or create) an account with Google with the @gmail.com extension.
This account is unique; you cannot create a second one as you wrote in <7>. Commonly, we refer to it as the Gmail account. This account identifies you with Google and also has email functions with an associated mailbox.
On your computer, when you open a Google window, you have access to your Gmail account, and you can check the mail from the mailbox provided by Google:

Things get complicated on the smartphone:
You also have a Gmail icon, but it provides access to a mail manager that can host, in addition to the @gmail.com mailbox, other mailboxes (Orange, Laposte, Free, Hotmail, etc.).
The word "Gmail" thus no longer has the same meaning.
To return to your problem:
- On the computer, you do not have a mail manager. You access your Orange boxes via the Orange webmail, which is an Internet address that allows you to manage your mail directly on the Orange server. This webmail likely allows you to manage multiple Orange accounts, those that you call Orange1 and Orange2. I do not claim this is the worst solution; it is one solution among others, and if the webmail is well designed, it undoubtedly provides some advantages.
- On the smartphone, you have 2 options.
1) You use the Orange app that you download from the Play Store. If it is well designed, you should be able to manage your 2 accounts.
2) You use Gmail: You add your 2 accounts to the manager. Here is, for example, the status of my accounts on my smartphone in Gmail:

To add an account, simply provide the account address, the password, and Gmail takes care of the rest. The proposed configuration is IMAP, which means you have a reflection of what is on the server of the account, and synchronization is ensured.
You see that I manage about half a dozen accounts, including Gmail. For the additional accounts, there is no interaction with Gmail.
For me, the simplest solution would be for you to use the webmail on the computer (which you are doing) and to use Gmail on the smartphone to manage your Orange accounts.
The advice your friends gave you was good, but it is not about transferring Orange to Gmail, as you thought. It is just a management of accounts via the Gmail app.
I tried to be as clear as possible so that you have a better understanding of the problem. It is not always obvious!
I just uninstalled Mail Orange and reinstalled it via the Play Store. I just found back ***1@orange.fr. Deleting emails from the smartphone is properly reflected on the PC (after closing and then reopening the mail app). Deleting emails from the PC is properly reflected on the smartphone (after closing and then reopening the Mail Orange app). I therefore consider that the problem is resolved and thank you for your help.
1- I conclude that I no longer need to transfer my mail to Google/Gmail.
BUT, before closing this discussion, can someone tell me how to recover my second Orange account (***2@orange.fr) because, during my reinstallation of Mail Orange, I did successfully recover ***1@orange.fr, but not ***2@orange.fr, and I don't remember how to add it to Mail Orange on the smartphone!...
To Pierr 10.
Thank you very much, Pierr 10, for your explanation, which has greatly clarified the links between Gmail and Orange, completely different from what I thought. In fact, Gmail is a "host" for accounts for Android. This means that all messages sent from my Orange accounts hosted on Gmail will keep their orange.fr extension (and not gmail.com, as I previously believed.)
Two little points still need clarification...
1- You suggest I opt for the Gmail app to manage my two Orange accounts on my smartphone. What advantage do you find in it compared to the Orange webmail? Better synchronization with other services offered by Google (for example)? Greater security? More user comfort?
2- In my ignorance, I imported my account ***1@orange into a Gmail account specially created for the occasion (***3@gmail.com) along with my contact list. Since the Gmail mailbox is created, I will keep it, but I will delete all emails from Orange that are there as well as the import of my Orange account ***1@orange.
3- How can I reach the "manage your Google account" window (which you provided as an example) on the smartphone? When I click on Google/Gmail, I go directly to my gmail.com inbox and have not found a way to access this window among the three horizontal lines at the top left of the inbox... Is this window where I would be able to add my two Orange accounts?
4- I took the opportunity to completely empty the gmail.com mailbox of its messages from my PC, as I could not find a way to select all messages from the inbox on the smartphone to delete them. However, what is more bothersome is that I also could not find a way to permanently delete the import of my Orange account on gmail.com...
Apologies again for the trouble, and in any case, a big thank you for your help!!!
PS I just realized that by emptying gmail.com, I have completely emptied the account ***1@orange.fr from my Orange mailbox!!! There, I've lost everything! ... Tough luck...
Hello,
I will try to answer your questions, but it will be approximate as I am not familiar with Orange applications, not being a customer of theirs.
Question 1 : It is possible that the Orange mail management app (on smartphone) is well made, and in that case, there is no reason not to use it. For me, who has quite a few different accounts, Gmail allows me to have centralized management of all my messages.
Question 2 : The accounts that have been imported to Gmail can very well stay there and be managed from another place. I do not know the characteristics of the imported accounts. Not touching them can avoid losing messages.
Question 3: It is indeed by clicking on the 3 lines at the top left of the Gmail window on the smartphone that one can add accounts. You have to scroll down all the way to the bottom of the list to Settings. In the window that opens, click on Add account. (It won't be exactly the window I showed). Then click on Other.
Question 4: For this question, I have no answers. It is better to leave things as they are. It's not an issue.
Good evening.
If you delete a message on the smartphone, it gets deleted on the PC. If you delete a message on the PC, it gets deleted on the smartphone. It's synchronized.
Hello,
If it's the ISP's Webmail application on the smartphone, there is neither POP nor IMAP to configure, and if you delete an email, you are directly deleting it from the ISP's mail server, and it will no longer be available for download on an email client on the PC.
Unless, of course, the email client on the PC is set to POP and is left running in the background instead of being opened on demand to retrieve emails: before I delete the email on the smartphone app, it will have been downloaded in the client.
