Percentage data bar (keep 100% as max)

Solved

Hello,

I found a task list template in Excel that uses data bars with solid fill to track progress within a task. It was set up with the following entries: 0-25-50-75-100%. I modified the entries to advance in increments of 10% for greater accuracy.

Since then, the data bar no longer fills according to the "logical" progress, but based on the highest percentage shown in the table at a given moment. See example below:

Yet, I feel that the rule is correctly set to fill the data bar to 100%, and not based on the highest percentage in the table... Here are 2 screenshots of the settings:

Can you tell me what the parameter error is that causes my data bar not to fill as I would like? Because this issue makes the use of the data bar completely useless ;)

A big thank you in advance for your help!

  1. Hello,

Indeed, it's a strange way of functioning...

The workaround I found is to stick with numbers. So, cell format as number, possibly a custom format like ##0"%" to add the symbol at the end, and for conditional formatting, set it to "number" and not "percentage".

    Best regards.

    1. Great, it works!

The percentage sign in custom format creates an error in data validation, so I just indicated it in the column title.

      Thank you very much!
