Why can't I scan with Naps2?

Hello,
My printer is old (it's an HP Officejet 5610), so I had to install Naps2 on my PC to keep it working after Adobe Flash Player was discontinued. The problem is that it works very well on my PC, including scanning, but scanning doesn't work on my wife's PC; it says: "no acquisition device found." The printer is installed on her PC, and she can print from an email or an internet document, but scanning is impossible. Both PCs are running Windows 10 and are up to date. I uninstalled and reinstalled the printer, but it didn't change anything. I don't see where I could add it in Naps2, something I didn't need to do from my PC. If you have any ideas, I'm open to suggestions. Thank you for your responses.

Good evening,
I hadn't seen your last proposal; I must have forgotten to check the box "receive replies by email," so I kept looking. At one point, it indicated that there was no driver, which I found strange because the installation with Windows 10 is supposed to be automatic. However, I searched for a compatible driver and found one on DriversCollection.com (Drivers for HP Officejet 5610 for Windows 10 64-bit). I downloaded it, and I had to reinstall the printer with HP, and now I can scan with the HP Solution Center and with Naps2, which also works. So I still have a question: when you install the printer automatically with Windows 10, does the driver not install, or did I need to perform an update, and if so, how? I also thought that the HP Solution Center no longer worked, but apparently that's not the case. I hope this can help someone else. If you could answer the two questions I’m asking, that would allow me to finish on a high note and would certainly help someone else. See you later.

In principle, when Windows sees a printer, it should install the appropriate drivers, but it's possible that it couldn't do so, either because the printer is too old and is no longer included in the built-in Windows drivers, or because it couldn't find a website online that offers them...

However, I will only answer one question because I only see one in your message!

Thank you, the second question was just that I thought the HP Solution Center was no longer operational, but apparently it is still functioning. Here's what I found:
"But since January 12, 2021, this HP Solution Center has not been operational, and as a result, even though you can still print, you can no longer scan your documents, nor do anything else for that matter. The reason for this malfunction is simply due to the discontinuation of Adobe Flash Player."

Hello,

in naps, which protocol have you chosen to communicate with the printer: WIA, TWAIN?

Is it the same for both PCs?

Hello,

I’m not familiar with your setup using Naps 2... but I have seen several shared installations like this before, where printing worked fine on both PCs... and the scanner only worked with the machine it was connected to...
Scanning doesn’t work with machines connected via sharing or on a print server (like a BOX for example.)
-- So you might be in that situation..??
How is it connected..?

Hello,
Thank you for your responses.
I'm replying first to Blux, it's WIA that's checked on both, I suppose this was done automatically.
In response to Jeannets, I tested the printer directly on my wife's PC and it doesn't change anything, I changed the cable, used hers on my PC where it works but still nothing on hers. I really don't see what's going on. Talk to you later.

Can you try to use the scanner in TWAIN where it doesn't work?

I tried but it doesn't work, however when I'm on Naps2, I go to profiles, edit, there is nothing written at device unlike on mine where the printer's name is indicated. We can't add it by typing its name because it's impossible to write. To the right of device, there is "select" and when I click on it, it says: "no acquisition device found." Therefore, the device needs to be indicated, but how to do it? That's the mystery. See you.

Indeed, we need to look at where we can configure the search in TWAIN or WIA (I'm saying this from memory, I don't have access to naps2 right now to verify).

I don’t see where to look, I searched but found nothing. What’s curious is that from my PC I didn’t have to do anything, everything happened automatically.

I think that changing the PC and the cord with your wife's doesn't change the configuration in the PC. In my opinion, the installation must also be done completely on the other PC... Is the OS the same?

The installation was done exactly the same on both PCs, one after the other, and they are both running Windows 10. With my wife's PC, it seems that the printer is correctly recognized as we can use it, but the scanner does not seem to be recognized, which is strange.

I might be able to install something other than Naps2 if you know of something equivalent or at least something good for older printers that still work. However, I would like to find out where the problem comes from. Thank you for your responses.

Create a new profile and set it to either WIA or TWAIN (and then check at home which version is set in the advanced settings).

I don't see anything indicating a version in advanced settings.

I saw it, but it says: "predefined," and if I click on it, it offers me 1.0 and 2.0. What should I do with that?

You choose 1.0 and see if it works; if not, you set it to 2.0 and check...
