USB port that only works when plugged in.

Hello,

I recently bought a monitor (Iiyama G-Master Black Hawk G2740HSU-B1 27" Full HD Matte Black, which has two USB ports) to work on dual screens from home (just so you know, the main computer is an Acer Swift 3 laptop).

Wanting to avoid cables, I purchased a USB/HDMI adapter (Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter V2 - Wireless Display Adapter Miracast) that I can theoretically plug directly into the monitor to project my laptop's screen.

The issue:
- When I plug the adapter into the monitor (USB + HDMI), it doesn't work.
- However, if I don't plug the USB side into the monitor but directly into a power outlet with an adapter, it works.
- I initially thought that the USB ports, which provide power to the adapter, were not functioning. However, if I then plug the USB side of the adapter back into the monitor, it works, and I can use it normally.

To summarize: for it to work properly, I have to always plug the HDMI side of the adapter into the monitor, the USB side of the adapter into a socket, and then reconnect the USB side to the monitor. This is obviously not practical. Do you have any idea how to solve this bizarre problem?

(I should note that if I directly plug a USB stick into the monitor, my computer does not detect it)

    Hello
Have you read the manual for your monitor?
For the USB ports, it acts as a USB HUB.
Here’s what it says in there: there’s an upstream USB port and downstream USB ports
So you need to connect them like this:
Currently, it’s impossible to include a screenshot, but check the sketch on page 8.

Thank you for the response. If I understand correctly, in theory, the USB ports on the screen are not supposed to work without being connected to the computer via a cable? (which therefore negates the point of an HDMI connector without a cable for screen projection since the screen still needs to be connected to the computer?)

But in that case, how do you explain that everything works after an initial electrical impulse?
