Hello,
I have an old laptop that runs on XP. (which I no longer use)
When I open it, I have a background image.
I would like to recover this image, but I don't know where it is located on the PC
I cleared everything on this PC and I didn't find this image.
Could you please tell me where it’s hidden.
Thank you for your help

Configuration: Windows / Edge 99.0.1150.39

    Hello,

The wallpapers are in Control Panel, Appearance and Themes, Change Desktop Background, and are by default located at C:\WINDOWS\Web\Wallpaper.

I can’t remember if it’s a system folder; if so, you need to choose to display them:

    I can't find anything.
I can't take a screenshot, there are defective pixel lines.

      ?

If we don't want to take a screenshot (a rather peculiar way to proceed...), the wallpaper image is necessarily located at the path I indicated unless it's an image related to the BIOS (but then before the Windows desktop loads).

      What do you mean?
      On the screen?

      In the first place:
      https://www.pcastuces.com/pratique/astuces/1904.htm
      Then:
      C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft then Wallpaper1.bmp...

For the tabs, uppercase letters are a good solution.
For the other applications, the second screen is good (but do we need one? For me, we do), but there's a downside (two screens facing each other).
We'll see when I receive the magnifying glass.

      Hello,

It's strange, this location is not the default.

I just went to check my XP installation, all the default wallpapers are where I indicated in <2>.

Let's copy-paste a personal image on the desktop, choose it as the wallpaper to see if XP saves it in a specific folder: lost, it stays where I put it and there is no new file named Wallpaper or anything else.

I understand: I simply note that I have no images in the LocalSettings folders, regardless of the user, and that searching for all images on the disk only leads to the location where I copied the "new wallpaper": for me, it has not been renamed to Wallpaper x nor moved elsewhere, but it is a jpg file.

Out of curiosity, I copied and renamed the only bmp image in C:\WINDOWS\Web\Wallpaper to the desktop, deleted it from there, and then set it as the wallpaper: there, I have the behavior you describe.

In conclusion, only bmp images are stored in the mentioned location.
